Pulled a 2ft piece of little track out of scrap years ago with the plan to build tiny anvils.
It’s time to make one for a Christmas gift for my father.
Here’s the start.

Looks really good so far. Do you plan a brushed or mirror finish when you’re all done shaping?

I suggest a felt bottom so he can lovingly display it on his desk or dresser. Or do you think he’s more likely to use it to pound on in his shop?

Thanks Shiftless. Definitely not going to polish. I’ll go smoother on the top, but it all depends on how it goes.
Felt bottom is a great idea as I’m expecting this to live a life of luxury.

I have used these thick felt pads for similar applications. They are just like the little round stick on pads for the bottoms of chair legs but big sheets. Just cut to size with scissors, peel and stick on a smooth surface. If your anvil bottom isn’t really smooth, coat it with a layer of contact adhesive, let it skin over for maybe 5-10 minutes and slap on the felt pad. That will work great!

I suggest cutting the pad maybe 1/4 inch smaller than the anvil bottom all around to get a cleaner look and hide the edge of the felt pad.

Do you plan to add a matching tiny hammer for it? I have a friend with a lot of anvils, including some big ones and some tiny ones...it's been on my list to search for a tiny hammer for his little ones.

Thanks Sqznby. Gave the bottom a little foot shape and tweaked the horn. This week I’ll give the whole thing a good smoothing and gun black it out.

Thanks wrench and Mike.
Just stole 30
minutes in the shed. Love the 1in belt sander. Everyone needs one. She’s getting there.

Larry, the track is small. 2.25 tall and an inch across the rail. Some type of industrial use?

Good question captain.
That will totally help in getting a shipping quote to Larry’s, oh wait, my Dads name isn’t Larry?

When Norm on The New Yankee Workshop built a project, he always completed three complete pieces. One for the shows producer (Russ Morash sp?), one for himself and the third one was maybe donated to a good cause they supported.

Better get busy so Larry will get his in time for Santa’s delivery.
