Tiny video cam buried nut remove...

The left turbo on my car has a nut that is impossible to see for install and removal.

My idea is to use a mini cam and a laptop to view the nut....it would make work much easier. Now it is all just feel...very tough.





The nut is behind this one.

My question ...has anyone done this before and can offer advice? I can buy mini cams on Amazon for cheap.

Pita moment there.
Hf inspect camera like said, can temp zip tie it to. Will help quite a bit.

just buck up and do it. unless i am missing something you are spending more time cutting up wrenches, welding them and tying cameras together than if you just did it. i have done lots of p.i.t.a. jobs. work at it for a few minutes and if your finger, hands or patience get stretched go sit in the lawn chair for a few minutes or do something else to distract you. i bet within the hour you have it done.

Good advice and this is what I have done. Just seems every time I do it I'm surprised how difficult it is.

I plan on tinkering with these a lot so I am searching for some longer term solutions.

The wrenches- yea I bought one wrench specifically to cut off and do this job but I ended up cutting it too short....pissed me off so I knocked these together.

There's always hope. :thumbup:

there are always a few bolts on cars that people seem to think are damn near impossible to get to.... just go in and get to it, most of the time people say something is impossible or can't be done and it just hasn't even been started for real.

things like getting to a few different things on the 2j in my car in my avatar, people say are really tough to get to and theyd rather pull the turbos out... which is crazy, i never had any real trouble.... trouble is stripping off the edges of a bolt in a location you can't get any extraction tools into. and you end up getting a dremel with a cutting wheel on an extension attachment to try to cut it, but can't reach. so you have to grind the bolt head down for an hour just to get something off.... that is a pita, but never impossible.

Go borrow a neighbors kid, i bet he can have it on in a few minutes. When i have these issues i go get one of my kids and it sure helps:)

Just curious, why does this job need to be done so often? How often and why are you taking these turbos off so often?

I'm a tinker'r. This is kinda like my golf.

By my choice I'm modified the modified. Car is a huge work in progress ..5+ years no drive. Currently, one of the projects is doing custom compressor to IC to TB aluminum tubing fabrication. This + the exhaust work its just nice to be able to take them off with a little less pain and suffering.

When I finish I will continue to tinker/modify to tweak the most efficiency I can.

I just got the wrenches back from the welder.... they do help a lot but it is still difficult.

The hardest part is getting the wrench on the nut in the blind.

Haha. I've had 4 Volvo Turbos and never touched a Turbo, the first one even wasn't water cooled. I had an S70 T5 that had 600,000 km still with original turbo when I got rid of it - and I only got rid of it because I inherited a G35S (non turbo of course).

Do you need to do anything to the drivetrain when you put the turbo kit on?

I pulled a turbo off of a Dodge H100 / Hundai COE truck 6 times before it left the shop, and reinstalled it every time.

No space, tiny hidden fasteners and each time it took me less removed related parts and less time. It was all about an unrelated oil pressure problem in the end. Ratchet wrenches and eternal calm were the tools that made the greatest difference for me. Good quality thin profile metric wrenches carried the bulk of the easy stuff.

Copper base anti seize grease used today will make you very happy 5 years from now. Those things tend to cook the bolts into hopelessly difficult without it.

Great idea but I need to do a little further research with the unit off the engine. When I have tried this before there does not appear to be enough room on the back side of the nut for ratchet head clearance. Only simple box or open ends fit.

I have seen these and they look nice....maybe a little over engineered.
