Do you guys know where to get some tiny vise grips. I got some small ones that is the standard issue ones. but i think there should be even smaller ones. You know sometimes stripped a small Allen keyed bolt or Philips screw holding a TPS. I would like a smaller vise grip it and turn it.

Smallest they made was 4", but they aren't very common. 5" are the smallest commonly available IIRC.

I went to measure mine and it was more like 6" overall. So I went to order the Irwin 4" one which should have helped to clear the plastic of the sensors better.

Thought I saw some at Ace, but they don't show up online (Irwin 4wr).

I got a very small pair , like 2 inch or so ... but it wont grip as good as the bigger ones, they are not ment for stripped screw extraction , get "torx extractors" they fit right there.

Most tps screws I saw have some loctite on them ....

Get the 4" needle nose and modify them by cutting off around 1/2" at the tips. That gives you much more gripping force. (mine have been a life saver at times)

I did de facto see them at Ace Hardware (went back there today). Also saw a 4" crescent wrench along with 4.5" tongue & groove pliers at Home Depot. Irwin says the jaw capacity is 24mm for the vise grips and Crescent says 19mm for the pliers (or 13mm for the wrench).

I just picked up a pair of 4" no name vise grips at a semi local steam engine / tractor show flea market. The regular jaw is 4" and the needle nose is 4 1/2" long. I had to pick thru to find 2 that weren't marked China. I know it doesn't matter but at least I don't have to see it when I'm using it. They were $ 3.00 each.

Interesting idea. I have some new ones that I picked up when there was some of the $5 deals going on.

Found that the little tongue & groove pliers are useful for removing bits from an impact screwdriver. Those bit clips in the socket adapter are more than finger tight, that's for sure (I like the magnetic ones or friction balls for removing them easily by hand, but the spring clips are more common).

OEM Tools has a version of those also (was looking for something else there myself).

Another solution to the screw-extraction problem — if there's any length sticking up — is the old-style gas and burner pliers. These have small openings with teeth on the very nose of the jaws. See the inset part of the photo below.

For example, see: http://alloy-artifacts.org/Photos/t...liers_gas_burner_3d_pend_f_cropped_inset3.jpg

Edited to add: I also have the 4WR and 4LN Vise-Grips (bought at a local Ace Hardware) and find the LN model very useful in holding small rusty items for wire-wheeling.

Thanks for the tip on the gas burner pliers. I have a pair or two and didn't remember that.

After ordering a T-shirt from "Vise Grip Garage" for a friend I was surprised to find in my package a 4" unbranded "Vise Grip" style locking pliers included as a gift. I thought it was a nice touch and the tool (which I kept for myself) seems serviceable enough.
