Tips for breaking in non-QR ratchets so sockets are actually removable?

I have a new Snap-On ratchet where sockets are a bear to get off. I know that snap-on sockets are easier to get on/off snap-on ratchets, but the reality is I have about 5 different brands of sockets that I use.

Right now I have a socket halfway on, letting it sit with the detent ball depressed.

I know.. Just use it and it will loosen up. But it's annoying, and I don't want to go through a break in.

And just for kicks - my ratchet doesn't say USA. Where was it actually made?

Brand new ratchet or new to you? I believe the early Dual 80s didn’t say USA on them. I picked up a new FLF80 to use at home and the detent is stiff as well. The step on the profile of larger SO sockets makes it easier to remove them, but on a 3/8” drive, I think that is gone on anything smaller than an 11mm or 12mm. For smaller ones, I have had to resort to a screwdriver if they are oily or slippery. Even after using it for a few months as a DIYer it seems to have loosened up compared to new though.

Also it says USA just trying to start a country of origin argument that results in my post getting bumped

Depress the ball with a pair of pliers, spray your lube of choice in there and cycle the detent ball up and down. This typically cures issues I have, although my rarely used models I'll usually just use a pocket screwdriver if the socket sticks on. I use pb Blaster or similar.

I have seen ratchets where the head isn't made quite right and the ball sticks out a little too much.
