I hate car payments so I save money until I can buy a vehicle. Then I buy one that is one or two years old with 10k to 25k miles for cash and save at least 10 grand off new. A couple of years ago my wife got a 2 year old Mustang convertible with 25k miles and I just bought a 2 year old F150 with 12k miles.
Our house is very well insulated so our heat bill is minimal. However, I still burn wood when I am home and if the wood is free. I don't mind cutting and splitting it, but it is not worth paying for it.
