Unless your Fathers name is Fred and he left you a large bag of Money and you worked your magic on that inheritance Tax, then you cannot afford these screwdrivers. So Woody how on Earth could you afford to buy this set you might ask? I had to wait for them to come up for sale over at the KC Tool web-site.

The price out the door was a jaw dropping $63.76 for 6 screwdrivers or $10.62 per screwdriver, you don't even want to think about it at full price!:wtf: Keep in mind these are on par with snap-on quality; (special edit here): I have been told they are not on par with snap on quality but sub par at best as they are much cheaper overseas, more like on par with the SK quality level lines. PS: " I don't want anyone ******* in my Strawberries".

So the tip here is if you ever want to pick up this set only spend between $24.00 dollars and nothing over $30.00 dollars...

These bad boys are made in Slovenia, (Vampire area of Europe?) and you could drive a stake into the hearts of thousands without worry of any kind of failure as they are very well made and up too the task at hand.

The Good:

These bad boys will not roll away from you as they are flat on two sides, they have a hexagon area for using a wrench. They come with an end to end steel shaft with a striking cap on the other end for use with any BFH that you might have lying around the work site, and the name is deep imprinted in the rubber over mold that indeed will last for a long time. Last they do have an ergonomic grip for larger hands. All in all they will survive the Zombie apocalypse and come out laughing asking for more abuse.

The Bad:

Like I said the expense is way out there for most hard working people, when they can pick up much cheaper sets coming from the China/Taiwan area of the world. Warranty that is another question too ask because I have no clue just how to get them replaced should they fail ? I suspect because it has some kind of white screen printing on the handle and some laser printing on the shaft of each screwdriver that in time they will indeed wear off.

A few links and one of the set in question should you want to buy it on sale (not sure how long the sale will last).

Is Gedore a good brand? I’ve passed on several wrenches because they said made in India.

Those screwdrivers do look nice!

How do the handles compare to Snap-on hard handles? They look similar now that I see them from multiple angles.

Sorry for the delay... Gedore started the India adventure back in 1961 and I believe it lasted till 1986. I don't know what they were thinking except maybe to save a buck or two but the quality was terrible, just plain bad to the bone for such a great German hand tool.

Yes they held up but the finish was awful and today you can find them in every junk box at garage sales. They must have come to their senses and stopped that adventure because I think they melted down car loads of those wrenches.

"The expense is way out for most people" What? Good grief picked up the wife from the airport last night and stopped in for pizza and a beer... 30 bucks before tip... 60 bucks is not expensive, its what people choose to spend their money on....

Partsguy 57 I know...but a lot of the GJ members complain about the expense and then they start by saying "I can buy 60 screwdrivers from HF for $5.99 and use my 20% off coupon on top of that...blah, blah, blah... So that is how I word it to save grace as they would say!

Hate to ‘piss on your strawberries’ Woody, but over here in the U.K. those are cheap Screwdrivers!

I have a set, without the striking caps, that cost me £15 ($19)! I keep them in one of my vehicles. They are o.k. quality, and I quite like ‘em, but they’re obviously made by Oplast in Slovenia, and a bit ‘down to a price’, The rubber overmoulding would pick up grease and grit far to easily if I used them as my ‘go to’ drivers. They’re fine for the price, but not Snap On quality!

The striking cap versions, as you have, are about £25 for the same set! If you’re paying $65, ON A DEAL, I guess I know why so many folks in the U.S. buy Taiwanese!

If you like the Slovenian made drivers, The Hazet ‘Trinamic’ use similar blades but have a hard plastic handle. I think these are a lot nicer to use in most workshops! The Hazet blades are a little different too. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hazet pay a little more for theirs. They have a reputation for being ‘top end’ whereas Gedore tend to be ‘mid range’!

Here are my Hazets, at home in my road box’

The price looks to be inflated in the US compared to Europe. They are not so expensive here so offer good value for money considering the quality. Maybe worth looking into shipping costs from Amazon.de. It's much the same when I try to buy US tools in Europe. Doesn't seem fair to rate their value for money on the inflated import price though.

Edit... Slow typer, Dave made the same point.

No way are the ones you linked equivalent. The Gedores shown are of the chisel-driver variety. And a good bit less money than similar PB Swiss drivers.

The linked Wera look to be 'Wera Kraftform Plus Chiseldrivers.'

I’ll buy you a set at $19 and keep ‘em till you’re over here next Woody - the price will average out a bit better then!!!

To be fair, I think that was a special promotion from Gedore - U.K. eBay was full of ‘em - though TBS Aachen still has ‘em at that price!

If I need anything, I try to take advantage of these manufacturers promotions, the deals can be really good.

Never seen the Hazet Trinamic on a promo though, the cheaper drivers, yes, but never the Hard Handles!

I don’t think it’s reasonable to compare the Oplasts to Snapper screwdrivers. The Slovenian tools have much better QC and ergonomics, while costing less.

I don't understand the title of this thread, it says "tips and tricks 101" but its just a review of the screwdrivers. Keeps misleading me every time I see it.

I have these screwdrivers; at one point they were 24 bucks on Amazon. Theres nothing particularly special about them, flatheads are not hollow ground (depending on your preference for that), handle is fine, warranty would probably be a troublesome process, if not expensive. If you find them for 24-30 bucks, and want to try a new screwdriver, go for it, but they're not worth anything beyond that.

Sigh... what a tough crowd today:eek::rolleyes:

Ok I fixed it again adding a special tip and a price point to go along with the post.

According to camelcamelcamel Amazon has never sold this particular set for less than $61.39. Third parties have offered a little discount from that, but not the 60% you claim. Perhaps yours are the non-cap version?

I would not expect a striking cap screwdriver to have a hollow ground tip. The two features are at cross purposes. Gedore-branded Oplast VDE slotted screwdrivers do have hollow ground tips.

warranty would probably be a troublesome process, if not expensive.

It's a screwdriver, so who cares?

Hey Woody. Sorry for adding to the negativity on your post. Was supposed to be constructive. Irrespective of the price it's enjoyable to read people's reviews of tools especially on alternative brands to the usual ones discussed here. Keep it up.

You're correct, this particular set is without the strike caps, though I do have some of those not purchased as a set.

I generally don't purchase tools without warranties, if you don't care about a warranty I'm sure you can purchase tools without it. All tool manufacturers make duds, and even consumable items like screwdrivers may need to be warrantied. I know I've warrantied brand new sockets with chipping chrome, a screwdriver that disassembled in my hand (not a gedore), etc.

I realized as a chisel driver type screwdriver, hollow ground is unusual, but it is available. One example is PB swiss. Not saying PB Swiss is a better screwdriver, just that that tip is offered with a strike cap.

My screwdriver drawer. I believe its important to evaluate all brands and see who puts out the product that suits your needs best.
