You have all seen it before you store your grease tools only to come back in a day or two and see leaking oil all over the place. This simple shop tip only requires a new/ or used paint bucket and two minutes of your time.

You can if you want put a paper in the bottom of the bucket as it will be easier to clean up the mess or just let the leaking oil collect on the bottom of the bucket your call. This tip is a fool proof way to keep your shop from getting messy.

Woody: nice tip. i put mine in plastic tool boxes that i find at sales for a couple bucks and just stack them, but i like the 5 gallon bucket idea too.

Nice tip, I have an electric one as my primary but will be picking up some manual ones for different types of grease. I will keep this thread in mind

I never have leaking from my grease guns, but coincidentally, I use the red grease. So maybe it's less prone to that issue.

Actually, this subject is the reason that I found this site. I thought for sure that some one had made a holder from PVC pipe. I had some laying around, but not 3". this is what I came up with

I just bent an old wire coat hanger into a hook and hang it on the side of my toolbox. With the finger of a cut off glove over the greasy end to keep messes to a minimum.

In my old service truck we had them mounted in clips then mounted a 2 inch PVC cap under it with a rag to catch drips. Stuck the hose in the spring part of the clip so that it dripped into the cap. All types of grease leaked didn't matter if it was high temp or lithium. When it got hot and humid in the truck they dripped.

I only have one grease gun and I always just sit mine in a plastic paint tray, doesn't take up as much space as 5 gallon bucket either, ymmv.

I use a nice steel welded fireplace tool stand/holder. actually have 2 of them. cheap at yard sales, they make great little stands to hold grease guns on. one is brass and holds 3, the other steel and holds 4.

I like the bucket idea, I may just cut the bottom off a couple buckets and set my stands in them to contain the leaks.

Used half a magnetic paper towel holder and pvc. That way I can keep it by my box yet keep it out of my way. I don't really have any issues with leaking. Majority of the time it's just a thin residue that's leaked out. Nothing that can't be wiped with a rag real quick. I've posted this in a few other grease gun storage threads.

I'm hoping to come up with something similar for my big DeWalt 18v grease gun so it doesn't take up room in my box.

Those magnetic paper towel holders are handy for a lot of things. Also, anyone who's close to a Menard's can get them for cheaper under the ToolShop brand than you can from HF.

I've posted my solution for storing my grease gun but I've made some additions.

The holder to the right is one I've posted before. I recently made the one for my smaller grease gun and made one for my caulking gun.

I also found this holder sitting around the shop so I painted it and bolted it to my cart. Works well when I'm servicing things.

Wow you people. One of the messiest jobs and your guns and their storage area look sterile.

I inherited an old Lincoln and recently cleaned it inside and out, but alas, much of the old grease has kind of bonded and changed the metal so it was out of the realms of me getting it pristine. It probably had ten- twenty years of pumping and changing cartridges- never any type of wipe downs or cleaning out the internal passages and nooks.

I keep mine lying/laying on its side, usually I think with the lever uncompressed on the top shelf in my shop. Its a good gun, got DuraBlend in it now. My third tube of grease in my life. First two were JT-6 and that second one was half ruined as I opened both ends 'before' installation in the gun.

My guns always get a wipe down. My hands always get dirty but I hate going to grease a fitting real quick and getting my hands covered in grease. My DeWalt grease gun is in the box, for now, and it gets wiped down too so it doesn't get the drawer covered in the grease too.
