Tire changer problem

Hi, I never used my tire changer yet but I got the compressor installed today and tried it a bit. It an old Hunter.

Problem is, the clamp pedal just spins it, both directions and I hear air bleed out. The spinning pedal works and no air bleeds out. I'm thinking maybe a hose or something is busted under there. Anybody got some professional advice here?

Thanks!

More than likely, it has a valve stuck. Tire shops are know for having more water than air in their compressors. If the machine sat for any length of time, the moisture probably caused a valve to stick. Flood the inlet with tool oil and cycle the pedals to see if it will come loose. Pull the side panel and see if you can find the source of the air.

Thanks! I'll start there.

Took the sidecover off and disconnected the air hose from the pedal/valve going to the clamping device. Air pushed out of i when I pushed the pedalt, so I guess the valve is good, right? Guess next will be to disassemble the clamping device to see if it corroded stuck or something.

I can see you have a track car. If you have your own balancer how much coin will you save over having a shop do it, or how many set do you have to mount before you break even. If you are doing it for peace of mind, i get it. You can't put a price on that.

Both really, but mostly "if you want it done right, do it yourself". I got the balancer and changer for $1k. To mount and balance a set of race tires its easily 15 bucks a wheel. At the track it can be $25! Obviously depending on how much I race etc, but a full season in one race series I can do 3 sets. That right there is enough for me financially  But I dont need it to make sense financially before I do something. If so I wouldnt race  what a big drain that is

Does it have an inline oiler?? it probably hasnt been oiled in years. When I worked in shops people were amazed when I came along and cleaned out the inline oiler and put some MMO in there. They were amazed how it worked so much better.:dunno:

It does, and I'll be honest, I couldnt figure out how to put oil in there :dunno: I also havent gotten time to really sit down and look at it yet. I'm sure it is just seized and needs some lube and wiggle free to start working again.

Btw, what's MMO?

That must be on steel rims. Actually $15/ea for mount and balance is pretty good. Around here it is more like $20-$25.

Steel rims? what is that? They are 15" alu rims and Toyo racetires. The stiff racetires makes for a challenge supposedly. I used to have a local shop do it for $8 but they went under and it's where I got the machines from.

Sounds like air is being routed to the wrong functions.

Could it be a hose broke and someone tried to fix it incorrectly?

Repair books or diagrams would help, but exploratory surgery works too :uzi:
