I don't follow, I'm in Canada too, what do you mean by seasonal? Most of Canada has 4 of them, but what bearing does that have on tire sales? I'd assume you would sell all seasonals, and winters if your area needs them... so what exactly is "off season'? :dunno:

I don't really have lots of free time, I stay pretty busy as is but figure it would help my new tires sales and make me a bit of extra coin in the off season. (I'm in Canada so we are very seasonal

Any other tire dealers by you ?? Competition ? Install would be a plus to me. I wouldn't buy tires and then go somewhere else to have them installed.

We charge $100 set to install, balance, and replace valve stems on customer supplied tires. We dont charge anything on new tires we sell, and most (id say 65%)of the time the customers used tires are in such bad shape we refuse to install them. The liability of some cheap *** killing someone just isnt worth the $25 we would make installing it. Then again we are a full service shop.

I think you need to charge more than $60. You are taking on a whole new liability once you start installing those used used tires. Make it worth your time, and double check that your insurance is up to snuff, or at least your personal assets are protected through a LLC.

Pete I believe it is widely accepted that used tires are as is. I don't know of any used tire shop or installer warranting used tires. Although you do have to be careful. Normally customers asking for used tires aren't the creme of the crop people in my experience. I do not hardly install used tires for this reason.

Cheap priced work in general usually draws in the most pain in the **** people to deal with.

Agreed-- most people assume "as is" however I do have liability insurance - I also offer 7 days warranty, because everything I sell is of good quality - I don't sell garbage tires people have issues with, so my customers return.

It's very rare anyone has issues with anything I sell, have had only a couple returns for broken belts - I just give the customer a new pair/set of tires.

The tire business (atleast in canada - not sure how USA works in the states it stays warm) does 80% of its business in 12 weeks of the year.

I could be very busy in November but rather quiet in February. People tend to buy tires in Oct/Nov for the winter, and then again in March/April/May for the spring/summer... Jan Feb most people already have there winters and are not thinking about Spring yet - you do of course get customers, but it's not the same volumes.

No question this is hurting the new tire side of my business, but little effect on the used. Folks buying used are not expecting installs. Though being able to do it would help.
