Tire marks on polyurethane over epoxy floor

In Sept. I epoxied my 750 sq. ft. garage and finished with a polyurethane top coat. Floor looks great. I parked my track car in the garage a week after installing the floor but put a square of Lexan under each tire as a precaution against marking the floor as the epoxy was only 6 days old. Last week I moved the car outside for a couple hours and then back into the garage but didn't put the Lexan under the tires. Two days later I moved the car out again and find that the tires have been imaged into the floor coating in the form of a brown stain that matches the tread pattern. I found that another set of tires (track tires) sitting under my work bench did the same thing. My cheap little Harbor Freight tire trailer did the same thing. What's up with that?!?!? Now I have a garage floor that I can't park a car on without leaving marks. Any body else had this problem with polyurethane coatings in their garage?

DIY. Legacy, HD356VOC IIRC. It was essentially a one part but had a small bottle of additive to enhance chemical resistance. Seems good with chemicals but not so good with tires.

Jim, HD356VOC does not come with a cross-linker.
You used HD30 which is what we sent to California until a few months ago.

HD356VOC contains way more VOCs than is allowed.
HD30 is a VOC safe, clear sealer.

We recently retired it in Cali as we now have a water base urethane which produces very good chemical/abrasion resistance, but much more expensive than either of the former mentioned products.

This is posted on our web-site:
Orders Shipping to California.

California has stringent laws regarding the amount of VOC's our products contain. Therefore if you place an order for a product that we cannot ship to your state, we will substitute with it's VOC compliant equivalent. Clear coat ordered with an HD Garage kit will be HD30. HD30 is a VOC compliant urethane clear coat. Penalties for not following these state laws are major.

Southern California is a no ship-zone for all of our products. We will not ship to these counties in Southern California: SCAQMD District - LA County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, Orange County.

In regards to the marks on your floor. I have never heard of this happening with any of our products. Please email me some pics: [email protected]

I realize it was California formula, just couldn't remember which part number it was. I'll send you some pics. It's a brown stain that seems to have penentrated the coating.

And this is a prime example of why I push Porcelin Tile for flooring.... Sorry to hear your luck Jim, Myself along with many others on here have had issues with our Epoxy floors... It seems like it is luck of the draw, or maybe different expectations between people...

This is my second epoxy garage floor. The first was going strong after 23 years (even with the burnout marks :3gears:). I moved to a new house recently and unfortunately couldn't take the garage floor with me. I have always enjoyed the look and durability of epoxy. For the record the stains are in the polyurethane top coat and not the epoxy. This is the first time I've used polyurethane.

Is there a way to fix the damage caused by the tire. I have this same issue from parking on a polyaspartic top coat.

Posts like this freak me out because I'm about to pull the trigger on 2400 sq ft. Every time I think I know what I want I read a post like this.

Old post fellas. Times have changed, we now have NohrS Polyurea available for CA. It passes muster will all counties except: LA, Orange, San Bernandino and Riverside. Excellent product.

In Florida, all products are on the table, no limitations.
