I finally needed the thing, I built this tub in a flash and it was always too big. I have been meaning all summer to fix it and today was the day, about 10 minute job to make it more manageable with a super chop, fill the gap deal. The bead is the backside. My brother cut and I weld as I was in a hurry and wanted to use it.
Now it takes about half the water.

Whoops, fuzzy weld pic.

This would be for locating leaks in tires?? Lots of times it would be nice to have a tub meant for that. Usually end up with some soapy water in a cup trying to pour it all over the tire, works...eventually.

I had one yesterday where it is worn out anyway but about the first I can recall with a leak from a previous plug. Its on my brothers car and he assumes because he cant find it that it must not be so and I said it had to go somewhere. The thing was super small, I use clean water in tub, no soap and if I have to wash tire off first.

He must have played with soap for half an hour before I made hip put it in the tub finally. Every once in a while its about the only way. The only reason I mentioned it was its been kicking around in my way waiting 10 months to take the 10 mins to fix it.

I remember making it out of another project drop and had about 10 mins in it at the time, it was just too big. The extra size didn't do anything but require extra water.

The pic of the weld was intended to demonstrate the occasion to weld vs fabricate. It was easier or as easy to fill a short gap vs fix up the cut for a perfect fit. Wire feed is super forgiving of this. No slag, just run over it again.

Best “re-purpose” I ever saw was half a big earth mover tire in a heavy equipment shop.
They had it setting on a castor wheeled platform of some kind.

Seemed kind of right somehow to see an old tire used to find problems in newer tires.

I don’t do tires all that much anymore. But I always remember that shop and think half a tractor tire would fit into what a lot of guys do.
