Tire/Tyre tread depth gauge

Do you Americans measure in Metric or SAE? never seen these tools discussed

What do you use?? Mechanical or digital?? Any good brands to look out for??

In the UK we have a minimum limit of 1.6mm and gauges have this calibrated on the scale

Pennies. We use pennies. If you see Lincolns hair, time to switch. If the wear bars are even with the tread, time to switch.

Real answer, its measured in fractions. I wanna say 3/32 is the lowest acceptable raing, but I may be wrong. If your looking for one, id just type in tire depth tool in your search bar. Nothing expensive needed as you see a lot of peoples tool cost .01. And last forever.

I was just interested in the metric v SAE thing really

But knowing the USA I expected some fancy expensive gauges

Complicated and fancy from Americans? The county is the most obessed in the world! Easier, the better is this cintries Otto. Unless you ask the engineers or the group of people were not allowed to talk about. THOSE people make things difficult. Lol

I just look and know; the penny trick is good but a wear bar is beyyer

Trucks are 4/32 steer tire and 2/32 drive tire lowest acceptable by dot

2/32" is minimum tread depth in MD. I'd replace tires at 4/32 or thereabouts myself but that's the law, and yo'd be shocked how many vehicles I see that don't even have 2/32...

You'd be surprised how many idiots try to sell used tires with 5/32 left and say the tread has "50% life left". If you ask them about the wear bars (usually at 3/32), they have no idea what those mean....
