TM Technologies (tinmantech) Warning

A few of you may recall that I asked about a good set of body tools made in North America. A few recommended Martin Tools and TM Technologies.

So I place an order with TM Technologies. Pricey, at $470 Canadian after exchange and shipping, but I'm willing to pay for good North American made tools.

A day goes by and nothing from them. I check my credit card; the charge went through. I wait a few more days figuring everything is slow with Covid. Nothing. So I e-mail them. I get an apologetic e-mail saying Covid is delaying their suppliers and they will ship July 20. I say ok, an e-mail or something would have been good, but I understand.

Today I get a call from UPS. The have a package from TM and the charges are $283 dollars. Why? They shipped it UPS air (which I never asked for). I refused to pay and told UPS to send it back.

So, hence the warning. If you are in Canada, I would advise being careful dealing with this company. Perhaps they are better with their US customers.

I e-mailed TM and will update when I get a response but this has not been a sensible transaction and I want to warn others before spending not small sums of money.

Cheers,

Bill

Is the shipping via air because of the border control between US and Canada? Would be nice if companies were forthcoming with such information!

I've ordered other things and it hasn't been an issue. other than slower than usual. And I wish US companies would stop using UPS to ship to Canada. The postal service is only marginally slower and they don't have the rip-off UPS broker fees. I often won't buy something if there isn't a shipping option beyond UPS but in this as I couldn't seem to find an alternate company to get the tools.

This has mostly been a disappointment. I'm not angry but why couldn't they communicate with me and at least ask before doing something like shipping UPS air? if you have dealt with UPS at all, you know that it is going to be expensive for your customer.

UPS brokerage charges are outrageous. Have them use the post office air mail. Airmail is reasonable and faster than ground.

Depending on what Martin tools you're looking for, Summit Racing carries quite a few of them. I bet their pricing and shipping policies are more favorable than a lot of other places.

Here's a link:

Sorry to hear about your experience. I have purchased a few things from TM Technologies and did not have any complaints, but I wasn't trying to ship out of the country.

Good luck on that one! When you refuse a UPS shipment, they do not return it to the source......they toss it in the garbage, what do they care, and you are screwed royally. That is what has happened to me in the past.

I always request USPS shipping in bold letters anytime I order from the U.S.

Good luck to OP or good luck to the company? If I were OP, I'd be on the phone with my credit card company explaining that I had an agreement to purchase product for a certain amount, with no discussion of additional delivery charges, and that didn't turn out to be the case.

Unless it's customs or something that the sender had absolutely zero control over / knowledge of, I think OP would win, unless the company did advise of potential delivery charges and he just overlooked it or something. Hopefully for him that's not the case, though we all make mistakes so who knows

So, in the end I got screwed by a company that doesn't give a damn about their customers. Credit card co says nothing they can do because it's not a clear case of fraud. And TM is not responding at all to communications, which I guess shouldn't be surprising since they never sent me an order confirmation, shipping notice, nothing.

First time I've ever had a problem ordering from the US. And I will probably do it again but only from company's I'm really sure are honest (wish I'd known Summit carries Martin).

Cheers,

Bill

Did you just make that up...

In fact, Amazon even will tell you to refuse a shipment if you can not cancel it in time. It goes back to the vendor and can still be sold as brand new

You may be speaking the wrong language to your card company. It's not fraud so much as a case of not receiving what you paid for. If you file the correct type of dispute while you still have time, and the merchant fails to follow up with the card company's inquiry, you will win the dispute by default. Unfortunately if you open the wrong -kind- of dispute, i.e. assert fraud, you will get nowhere.

Good luck, call your card company before its too late to file a dispute. It's a known tactic for companies to draw things out until you have no recourse with the card company.

Of course not! That is based on past experience.

Think what you are overlooking is the fact that UPS has already gone through the expense of customs clearance. Do you think they will do that again to return it to the sender at further expense?

I haven't tested it but, I think our post office would do the same thing.

In your case there is no border to cross, just a simple RTS transaction, a totally different story.

It will only get tossed if the shipper requests it, I.E. the shipper says no we do not want to pay return shipping costs so dispose of it.

For the OP just tell your CC company you never received the product and have no response from the company you ordered it from, if they will still not refund then you need to find another CC company.

I would like to see a screen grab of the OP's order - how much did you think shipping was going to cost?

I just went to their website, threw $440 worth of hand tools into a shopping cart and clicked on 'shipping click to estimate' and used a Canadian postal code. Is it possible you didn't select the shipping you wanted when you checked out?
