TM737 Upgrade?

My Snap On TM737 is starting to act up, and I need to replace the internals. Is there a higher tooth upgrade available to the internals?

The part # is RKRTM739; the "39" would indicate to me, that the tooth count is still the original 39 it came with.... now whether or not you could replace the whole head with a later design, is the question. I don't know if they would fit but it does seem possible. I guess you could order the replacement parts and try it or go to your local dealer and see if they fit or not! Good luck!

if you type in that part number on Snap ons web site it takes you to the new one. So if it is not fixable you get the upgrade.

In a word ....NO.
The TM737 is a 39 tooth round head ( roto head ) ratchet.
On round head ratchets the teeth are machined into the ratchet body.
You could put a rebuild kit in it but it may just need to be cleaned and lubed.
Round head ratchets often respond well to just being submerged in oil,ATF,etc.

Maybe try letting it soak for a while first to see if that helps.

Yes! The new type head WILL fit! I did that to my TM737.

Vibrolux, how did the parts cost; did you order online or get them from your local dealer? Care to post the part #'s and prices so other members can use that info, to do the same upgrade? Any info appreciated!

Well, I actually combined a THFN72 with it. I looked to see if the parts are available, but they apparently aren't.

So it looks like an upgrade will cost $103...

I've got a TM738 (39 tooth metal handle version) and asked S-O if a 72 tooth head was available to retro fit and as was said you'd have to buy a new ratchet.

My issue is they only have soft grip handle's for the roto ratchet's. I prefer the 5" metal handle for being compact. I'd really like to upgrade, but would have a hard time doing it at that price.

Vibrolux, so to be clear; you just cannibalized the total head assembly that cannot be purchased from snap-on as replacement parts... put it on the old body? I'm assuming all the "new" parts fit perfectly; I guess they have not changed the body design (mounting area, rings, circumference of the head, etc.) just the head/gear design...

As noted; part #1 or #5 isn't available as service parts, thus the need for cannibalization. I guess they must end up replacing allot of these round head style ratchets; when the head wears out.

Ironically, enough.. on the old ratchet; the "head" are listed as replacement service parts you can order; I wonder if the head comes with everything or it is just the geared ring... and you would need the gear kit. Anyway, more parts are available for the older then the new... go figure..

Exactly. I wound up with an old looking ratchet that performed like new, and a new looking ratchet that was rough as it could be.

All the parts interchanged perfectly.

BTW, I would post pics of them but I would up trading both of them off last year...

Sorry to revive the dead, but. I have the snap-on tm737 in 1/4” drive with black hard screwdriver handle. I also have the same in 3/8”. I had a 1/2” drive version that my brother borrowed and lost. On my 3/8” the product number has worn off, and I don’t have 1/2” to check. Does anyone know the product number for these two tools? What age would they be? As these are not in the current catalogue.
