After laying down Norkan 200 epoxy do I need to degloss it before putting down the hwu 420 urethane? It has quite a heavy coat of chips. I'm within the 24 hour window from the epoxy basecoat.
We had some rain here in AL, and it is cool 50's. I did not want to topcoat it with high humidity. So, I'm at the 24 hour window. The epoxy did take a lot longer to cure to the point where it does not leave a thumbprint. It's going to be 66 degrees here tomorrow. It is not a full broadcast, but heavy. I have some Zylene on hand, I could wipe it down to be sure. Thanks for your reply!
Wiping the floor with xylene wont do much. Other than clean the floor slightly. It does soften epoxy, but you'll run the risk of the flakes absorbing the chemical, losing their shape, and bleeding some colour out.
You want to coat it sooner than later. You've got the heavy chips in your favour. They will "grip" the top coat much in the same way the basecoat would molecularly ( if thats a word)
Applied the urethane today! Thanks for your help. I did not degloss the floor. It looks great! I'm glad I bought the eggshell finish, I don't know how you would be able to tell where you've covered or not with the gloss.....
