Like the title says I am going to do my garage floor with epoxy and I have had several recommendations to do a full broadcast with the chips instead of a sprinkle pattern. I am undecided which way to go. The garage will only have one bay that is really heavily used, as far as rolling equipment, floor jack and jack stands. The rest of the garage is just for my wife's car and all the lawn equipment and storage.

Do I really need the full broadcast for the floor to hold up in the one bay or is the epoxy strong enough to last without the full layer of chips? I actually like the look of a medium broadcast over the full. What about a second layer of the clear would that be equivalent to the layer of chips for strength?

No, you don't need to do the full broadcast of chips. Just spread em out however you like and you will be fine. A second coat of clear will only add to the wear resistance and overall punishment that the coating can take. Yes, a full broadcast will improve your overall dry film thickness and make it easier to repair in the unlikely event you ever damaged it, but it really isn't necessary.

I did a full broadcast because I LIKE THE LOOK.
Cost is higher but i did find that you can use the recovered
"waste" chips sucessfully again in another room or sell
them.
I covered my chips with one coat of epoxy and then coat of
urethane
Overall my job looks OK but i can tell you it is very difficult to
achieve mil build uniformity.
