To junction or not

I pulled 2/2/2/4 for 100 amp to my garage

I now have to get into my panel. If I go below my panel with an lb outside, can I run a junction box for purpose of making the 90 bend to my panel using pvc sch. 40 and cover it up? I know youre not allowed to cover for splices, but is it the same rule?

If yes, what else could I do?

If you mean cover the junction box with drywall, plywood, etc., then no. It would not be code compliant to bury a box whether the cables are spliced or not.

You can put an access panel over it, either a removable drywall panel, or a something premade.

You could also go up the outside wall a little further and come straight into the back of the panel.

I assume you are aware that if the 2-2-2-4 is aluminum it's not rated at 100A. It's 90A.

Honestly, no.

All the ampacity charts I looked at said xhhw2 #2 was rated at 100. I tried to do all the research I could but, not having an nec book its easy to screw up.

You have to look at the 75 degree column in the ampacity table

I don't doubt you guys, but could you point to me the reason why 75 instead of 90? Thanks

Terminals are rated at a max of 75deg.C so that limits the max temp of the feeder. 90deg.C is used when derating.

you could put in two LBs...one outside, one inside. Then pop in a double gang low voltage ring and double plate.

You need to be able to 'access' the cover. Not that you will actually every need to use it. Ever.



Oh, dont sweat the 10 amps. (90 vs 100) You will never need it.

is the XHHW too short to reach the panel? it is allowed inside, just needs to be in conduit.

I knew I saw it! But, I had no idea about terminals.

I will be having the panel in the home uprated to 200 and I was not sure it I get as much done as possible before the install, but I should be able to come right through the back of the panel with an LB so, for now should be ok

Electrician came out, did the 200amp upgrade and I finished the connection to the new panel.
Now, onto the wiring in the new garage
