Made out good today at the thrift shop Spent ~$35; got a bunch of vintage American made tool to add to the collection.

  1. American Pipe Tool No 1 Cutter $10
  2. channellock 16in (460) $10
  3. channellock 12in (440) $5
  4. Johnson rasp $3
  5. Johnson half round file $2
  6. Johnson flat file $2
  7. Maydox small ball peen hammer $2
  8. Proto flat head screw driver - Free

The two files will probably need an acid bath; but for $2 a piece I figured it was worth the risk.

Anyone have knowledge of Maydox tools? Some quick searching has not turned up much info; from what I can tell the hammer is very well made.

Edit..... thanks zkling for pointing out I got my terms mixed up; initially called the channellocks crescents...between that and the misspelled title, I must have my stupid cap on today.

Very nice stuff! I like the pipe cutter and of course the Channellocks!
You might search Alloy Artifacts for info about Maydox tools. Never heard of that name myself.

Those channellock's (threw me with crescent) should clean up nice between a wire wheel and some rubbing alcohol.

IDK on the Maydox brand. Lets see what the experts say. :dunno:

On the rusty Channellocks I've picked up, I've gotten good results with EvapoRust, a fine wire wheel on the metal bits, and a wipe with PB Blaster to prevent the rust from returning. The vinyl handles should clean up nicely with Simple Green.

Used Evaporust for the first time today on some vise grips...pretty happy with the results. Can the Channellocks be totally dunked in the Evaporust or will it degrade the vinyl handles?

Nice score Signedup...

are you sure it's maydox? not maydole?

the second name [maydole] is famous for good hammers.

I usually don't dip the handles because I don't want left-over ER seeping out later, but the vinyl grips will be fine in ER. I dunk pliers head first in a (well supported) paint cup. However, don't use it on chrome. For rusty chrome pieces, I use CLR and leave it overnight.

Store is in Southern California (Poway) - shop is called Bargain Hunters. Inventory and prices are hit and miss; lately he has been getting some quality old tools in. He's got most stuff binned by price point ($1 to $5), so you have to dig through pittsburgh and other tiawanese junk to find good made in USA tools.
