So last night, I got the MaxJax running b/c I was doing a friend of the family's brakes on a 2009 Corolla. I put my Honda Civic in the air and all was fine last night. Fast forward to today, I'm backing the Civic out of the garage and put it into the bumper of our minivan. Huge hole in both bumpers.

I'm not sure if that is one deductible or two????

Then, the Corrolla got stuck on the lift for 45 minutes. One side would not come down , at all. I ended up gently shaking the car a little bit after checking another post here about one arm getting stuck. I tried to bleed through the bleed screw and it didn't matter. Finally it came loose and slid down. That's a relief!

So , a $1000 in deductibles (500 each car) to help someone save a couple hundred. There went my new air compressor!!!

I was trying to envision how a rollback would get into my garage and get the car off and was having a bad time picturing it. I was also not having a fun time explaining why a car is in the air and isn't coming down in my garage. I chalked it up to an air bubble in the system. I need to check to make sure the columns are still level, etc. the cylinder wasn't binding that I could tell. The lift arms seemed to get stuck at the top of the lift. The nylon blocks were off center , but I figured the weight of a car would bring it down!!

I'm sure others had a day that sucked worse, but that's mine!

Very sorry to hear about your bad day. I hope they will maybe meet you halfway on their deductible since you were trying to help out.

Yeah sh*t happens, to bad about the damage to the cars i would probably just order some aftermarket parts and have the body shop paint them up probably cost you less in the long run

Thanks, I hit my car with my other car. I am not sure how the deductible thing will work. I will have to call the insurance tomorrow and file a claim. I found that shops don't want to paint after market bumpers. I haven't had a claim in 8 years, so hopefully it won't affect my rates.

If you run into your car with your car, only one is covered by the insurance.

The 2nd one is on you.

If you run into your house with your car, then there is 2 deductibles because there are 2 different policies

I have repaired both my car and truck this last year with buy it now parts, already painted off ebay. Then after all that, someone side swiped my wife's car from the back door through the quarter panel. Didn't leave a note. I am waiting to up date my vehicles now, or enter a crash up derby contest. One or the other.

Believe me, I know about doing all the right things and still having everything go wrong.

I had a similar issue with damaging one of my own vehicles with another of my vehicles. A friend of mine that lives on a more well traveled road than where I live said I could park my Cherokee in his yard when I decided to sell it. I went down there on a Friday nite, and wrote "For Sale" and my phone number on the window of the Cherokee.
I parked my Wrangler on the road side of the ditch, 1 wheel on the pavement and the other 3 tires, to varying degrees, on the road side ditch bank downhill, facing the Cherokee. I shut the Wrangler off and put the trans in 2nd (stick) but left the headlights on so I could see to write on the Cherokee's windshield. I took the keys out of the Wrangler and stuck em in my pocket even though it was less than 20 feet away from me.
I was standing next to the pass front tire of the Cherokee.
I started hearing a noise like a rock tumbler but didn't know what it was... didn't see anything moving, no traffic was around.
All of a sudden the Wrangler rolled down the ditch bank and into the Cherokee.
the Cherokee was not running, and in park. the force of the wrangler into the Cherokee pushed the Cherokee back about 12-15 feet. no damage to the Cherokee but the wrangler now has a jacked up passenger front fender, the wrangler's bumper hooked underneath the Cherokee's and the bumper guard of the Cherokee messed up the front of the fender on the wrangler.... I could salvage the fender if I cut it like they do when putting tube fenders on them for big tire clearance.... but I found one (it's even green but not the same shade) on CL off of a 3 year newer wrangler, for $80
I found exactly 1 wrangler fender in a yard, they wanted $150 for. Stupid expensive, for being a used fender.
I could have bought a brand new fender, chinamade, for $130. but i'd rather have a good used OEM fender than a new chinamade one. Being winter and a worse winter than we have seen in a few years, I'm waiting til spring to bolt the replacement fender on..... should something bad happen from unplowed roads or black ice, I'd rather it further damage the current fender, than my replacement....
and the Cherokee is gone.

Dang Todd that *****, hope it doesn't end up being too painful. It could have been worse reading about that lift, at least no one was hurt.

What's that saying about "No good deed goes unpunished"?

If it makes you feel better, a while back a friend and novice dirt digger was trying to negotiate a steep section of his driveway with a new to him 12 ton excavator. Of course it's winter and the pitch is all ice. Well down over he marches. At the bottom are 4 20' sea containers with a brand new Subie wagon parked on the high side.

He was storing the Subaru for his then girlfriend's mother for the winter. Well you can guess how that worked out. The excavator broke free and surfed the pitch right down into the car like it was magnetized.

I got the call at work to come over after and bail him out of his mess. When I got there I couldn't believe it, that excavator basically mounted the car. I had to stand the machine up on the bucket teeth to get enough traction to push myself off the car, when I did the only way I could move was to get sideways to the hill and push myself off. With 1 big shove I pushed myself off the car and out past the containers. I slid sideways down to the bottom, what a ride:scared:

Scratch 1 brand new Subie, 1 girlfriend, 1 pair of underwear, that car was destroyed, the insurance company made his life hell for about 6 months.

Moral; just because it has tracks doesn't mean it'll go anywhere.

i also would price out some aftermarket and used bumpers before calling in an insurance claim. im sure you will find someone that will paint a couple of bumpers for some cash. and you may get lucky and find a used one in the right color. years back my dad spun out on some ice and backed into a retaining wall in his pick up. we found a used bed in a local wrecking yard in the same color.

If you have Collision coverage on the Civic, why wouldn't it cover both vehicles with only one deductible, the same as it would be if you ran into someone else's car? That is what mine would do.

If it's just the bumper covers, it would probably be less expensive to cover it out-of-pocket rather than making an insurance claim (even with genuine OEM parts).

I just have a hard time thinking your auto ins. co wouldn't raise your rates for a situation like this. JM2C.

Sorry to hear about this. Bad things always happen when you have plans to do other things with the money. But at least no one was hurt- so good luck.

if its minor damage i would just replace the parts myself.it would be cheaper to get the parts and have them painted any small body shop that is short on work would paint them, the large body shops only want the insurance jobs so they make more. this would most likely make your rates go up

Depending on the car and how picky you are, there are some outfits on ebay that sell prepainted bumper covers for cars. You supply them with the VIN then they Fedex them directly to your house. Not OEM and paint color match may not be car show perfect, but for ~ $250 (my son's Corolla) it was cheaper than filing a claim and looked worlds better than it did with a scraped / tore up rear end.

You guys have me thinking. I could swap out the bumper cover easy enough. What was the mane of the online place that paint a part then send it to you?

As stated above, I have (I'm also in Cincy). They were my kid's cars and I wasn't overly concerned with perfection, Run a search on ebay for "Painted Bumper Cover" and insert your make / model. Or...there is a guy in Blue Ash who does many of the local dealer "touch ups" who I have used a few times with excellent results at what was IMO a fair price. His name is Tony West, company is Painters Finesse, 11328 Tamarco Dr Cincinnati, OH 45242
(513) 489-8111.

Thanks. :)

In regards to paint and body work, I'm accustomed to ins. co.'s quoting aftermarket parts wherever they can to begin with (want repairs at lowest cost), so I don't see a huge difference with this anyway.

Not sure the paint & body pros get much choice, if any, regarding parts, unless the customer is paying themselves, and insist on top quality, such as a restoration project.

Thanks for the information! I totally missed your post about your sons corolla.

I did find some places online. My insurance agent is looking up to see if it will be one deductible or two.

Thanks for the information!

I had a car roll back a few feet with the drivers door open. It tagged the side of my daily driver on the way down and bent the wife's 2008 Mustang GT's door to 90 degrees... which also crumpled the front fender.

Luckily in CA, Wawanesa covered both cars with one $500.00 deductible.

It was a bad day!!

On a side note.. I never really liked the repair job on the Black Mustang and hated looking at it every time I came home. So I convinced her that she needed a new Flex and she's been happier ever since.

Well, I found out that the dealer wants 700 for both bumpers, bodyshops want 3-400 to paint each bumper. Paint Finesse , nice guy btw , quoted 350 each to repair with epoxy and repaint and insurance will be two deductibles.

Upon further inspection, MBI Auto on eBay has 31000 reviews. Something like 9000 in the last year all positive. It will be $670 for both cars, they are CAPA certified parts, painted and shipped.

I am going to order the Civic bumper first, since it's a lease!, to see quality , paint match etc. If it looks cool, I will order one for the Odyssey.

More to come !

I haven't ordered yet. It's been so damn cold, I may wait until spring. With my luck , there will be a run on black and blue paint !!

Heck, I'm even going to pay a shop to fix my leaking exhaust on my old truck (right under the cab!) b/c I don't feel like messing with it.
