More like 'bout $40 for that amount of stuff. :lol_hitti

That's what makes SO worth buying USED. Resale value. HB could resell those at half off retail (which is still, IMHO, too much to pay for "every day use tools") and still make a couple hundred bucks. But a retail of $1,150 for a hand full of hard hand tools? In today's world? Come on. I mean, come ON!:wtf:

To put it in perspective, when taking one's car in to the dealership for service and/or repair and seeing the shop rate of $150/hour - "But a retail of $1,150 for a hand full of hard hand tools? In today's world? Come on. I mean, come ON!" Those who pay retail for truck tools have every expectation of putting them to work pay for themselves in the immediate future.

The rest of us buy them used. I'm using Snap-on and Blue Point tools with date codes from the 1940s on up. Well-maintained, they'll forever be worth a substantial portion of current retail.

Those who like/enjoy the feel and utility of a certain product are only congratulating each other. They're not proselytizing and trying to convert HF believers. I've got a good friend who is an engineer. He drives a Honda and loves it. He just doesn't get Porsche. He knows all about how they're designed and built and how well they drive, but he just doesn't get his enjoyment from those sensations. The Honda gets him there at a low cost and is functional within his personal performance envelope. Anything else is money wasted to him. I joke with him about it. "Driving a dull car just because it is reliable is like marrying an ugly woman because she is less likely to cheat on you."

As always, your tools, your cars, your money, your decision.

Very well put, Jack. To me, SO is a "boutique" brand. Remember "McIntosh" stereo equipment from the '60's and '70's? Same thing.

I used to be half-owner in a national ice cream franchise. The ice cream was definitely better than you could get elsewhere. Probably about 25% better. Still, you could buy a gallon of store-brand ice cream for less than what one of our cones cost and the store-brand was pretty danged good.

No doubt, SO makes fine tools. As far as quality and consistency goes, they're arguably as fine as one will find. Starbucks also makes danged fine coffee. Neither SO or Starbucks represents anything approaching VALUE (when purchased at retail) for the dollar though. Neither did my "boutique" ice cream. :)

You did well, and if you keep your eyes open for deals, they are out there if you have the cash to back them up.
I would post some of the deals that I have found recently, but then when I go to sell them, everyone would think that I should give them away since I bought them so cheaply. An example, I bought a set of VS wrenches from 13/16" up to 1 1/2" for a $100, and they are like new. Other times, I have to pay more and take "the lot" just to get what I want.

I would think for the price of the truck brands they would give you a plastic tray that last more then a week. I know not everybody likes the trays but some do.....
