I had to go to St.Louis today to deliver some jacks and while my fiance was shopping i walked over to Harbor freight determined to use my Gift card i recieved as a Christmas gift. I was walking around looking at all there crazy **** when i realized that they keep there ratchets, wrenches and other valuables (LOL) locked up behind lock and key. I was simply amazed at this and it made me wonder "Who the hell would steal tools from HF?" I just figured i would share this to see if its common practice where your from or not.

Yeah my local harbor freight has the air tools locked up. None of the other stuff though. Kind of weird to see 15-20 dollar air tools locked up behind glass. lol

what is funny is that you guys live in places where they need to lock up anything in a store. the majority of places i go to have all the tools on the shelf and at worst behind the counter. actually not funny, i feel bad for you guys.

Trust me in todays day and age nobody is safe from being robbed, Big city, Small town, Rural area etc.... All you have to do is open the paper up to the Police report section.

The Harbor Freight I usually go to has everything but the air tools out in the open. The other store, which is in a really barrio area of town, has more tools locked up.

It all depends on the typical clientele, unfortunately.

i did not say i was naive. i know full well the dangers of theft and crime. just saying that things are much better here then in other places. my neighbors formerly from socal and minneapolis/st.paul will back me up. actually things are really bad were i live, nobody but krusty would be safe near my place.:bounce:

The main difference to the stuff the gets locked up is that its in compact packaging, smaller sized to fit boxes instead of mounted on cards etc. so its $/vol and stealability is high.

Sears just started locking sockets and wrenches up. I can understand smaller sizes because you could definitely walk out with a smaller wrench or a socket but a 32mm combination wrench? really? I feel there is no need for that. If you can get out of sears, where the register is next to the exit, with a 32mm wrench..you deserve it.

I had to ask for the CCTV camera set and the worker had to take it up to the cashier for me. Funny thing is the cashier was trying so hard to sell me extended warrantys that he forgot to sell me camera.
