Today's Pawn Shop Purchase

Just wanted to share these two items I picked up at my local pawn shop today. I see a lot of threads on here asking which brand to buy and where to buy from. I just paid $30 ($15 each) for both of these Snap On sets. No rust, nothing bent or broken, and will work just the same as new off the truck. I'm not a wealthy man and can't justify spending big bucks on expensive, new tools. I've survived just fine up until this point with my mismatched sets of flare wrenches and my mismatched set of nut drivers, but I kept my eyes open, waited patiently and found a great deal on some great tools. You can do the same lol

I'm not the kind of person who's ashamed to by used tools. Even if the old owners name is written all over the pouch. No etchings, but that wouldn't bother me either. If you notice, the Snap On driver ends have very thin walls. Much thinner compared to my old ones. I like that

I hear that a lot and none of the pawn shops in my area are like that. To be honest, the only stuff I've seen in my local shops are the big 3/4" and 1" socket sets. I scored these a few weeks ago for $1 each. There was also a 4" Williams USA adjustable wrench I picked up for $1. Granted I took advantage of the lady working the counter, but hey. Pawns shops take advantage of everyone else. +1 for the good guys

That's a great score. Every pawn shop I've checked out puts crazy prices on anything with a truck brand name no matter how abused it is.

We have one pawn/second hand shop.

He prices any brand name tool about 10% below brand new. Even tried bargaining with him. No go. He just assumes your gonna just warranty exchange it.

Wish it wasn't but that's the way it is

Same here. Used Snap-On is typically priced at 10% less than buying it brand new off the website. Even badly worn SO stuff is priced this way.

I've found a few deals, but not on SO stuff. Pawn shops here think that SO tools are made of gold and platinum.

You live in the SAME state as me lol... Maybe you can't find anything because I get all the deals first

But seriously I will say I live down in the valley by Ansonia, Seymour, Naugatuck, etc. Up in Waterbury and beyond the prices do go up. I went to TC's Pawn Shop in Waterbury/Wolcott one time and found some older Mac wrenches marked for like $10 each. Then I found some unmarked Matco impact sockets. When I went to pay, the guy who helped me asked the boss man (some young kid who thought he was hot stuff) how much the impact sockets were. He looked them up online and told me something like $20 each. So I quickly paid for the wrenches and said no for the sockets. After I paid I heard the boss ask why I didn't want them? So, as I'm about to leave, I cockily asked the boss why they sell Mac wrenches for $10 each and Matco sockets for $20 each? His mouth sort of dropped and he knew he had been beat. I'm pretty sure he gave the younger guy a lesson in tools that day...

I bought that same set of nut drivers back in the mid 80's. There main purpose was the car stereos of the era with the the knob on each side. You needed a deep well driver to go over the shaft. Nice score!

You must be beating me to them! I've yet to see a deal on SO in a pawn shop.
The only good score I've got at a pawn shop was a set of SK combo wrenches and a set of SK DBE wrenches. The guy pricing them must not know that SK is good stuff. They were priced like no name Chinese wrenches

I never found any tools in a pawn shop that were fairly priced. In fact, I've seen old crappy Craftsman tools that were priced higher than what I would have paid for them when they were new. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong pawn shops but I have better luck at garage sales and with classified ads.

Our pawn shops price brand name stuff as if it was new. We have two trade schools here, so the pawn shops always has a lot of new stuff that the students get at their discount and then sell to the pawn shops

Around here all the pawn shops have are B&D jigsaws for $60 and SO, Mac, Matco, etc. for the same price as off the truck.
