This particular pawnshop usually doesn't have tools priced with any real reasoning.
I found the wrenches under a set of those large Chinese wrenches from 11/2"-2", and those were marked at $175! Found the other stuff in a junk bin with no pricing.
The Wrights were marked 39.99, so I asked the guy what he could do....and sure as hell didn't argue!
Bought several guns and tools there over the years, and more often than not felt like an alarm was going to sound as I walked out the door.

I'm 48. For 30 years I've looked in pawn shops. Not one time have I ever bought anything. Our local shops seem to be run by those craigslist crackheads selling hf tools at more than they cost.

That is a nice find.

Nope, you can make out fractional markings in the large photo.

Since I have absolutely no use for inch tools, my jealousy is dampened considerably. Best I can do is half a "you ****". :D

Damn. You and I share the same thoughts. I'll give the other have of the you ****.

PS. 4.3" screen here..

Same problem in my area. I've seen an incomplete 3/8 1/4 for 100 bucks before. I really hope they didn't pay over 5 bucks for it.
I never see anything good in my area, once in a while you'll see a SO socket set but its almost 200 bucks. EBay has better deals than that.

I don't even bother darkening the door of pawn shops anymore.

If I was paid $1.00/hr for every hour I spent looking at overpriced, worn out junk at pawn shops and garage sales, I'd be a rich man.

It is nice to hear that someone else shares my experience, in contrast to what is commonly posted.

You ****!

To those that never find anything... I've got better deals in pawn shops in less affluent areas. The one by my house almost never has anything good, and if they do, it's priced on the high side of fairly, so I'd rather shop the classifieds here or eFlay. The ones in the 'hood by my friend's shop... last score was a Snap-On impact driver set missing the Pozidriv bit but otherwise excellent for $50. They had some old Snappy torque wrenches for $50 apiece as well, but the mechanics at the shop didn't seem interested and I already had the exact same model for myself...

Pawn shops and garage sales are definitely a regional thing. Where I'm at at the moment the pawn shops are great and the garage sales, while plentiful, are just worn out clothes. I've never found anything at the small, neat pawn shops in strip malls. The large junky, dirty shops are best in my experience.

Was in PS and sae a large SO pry bar with the tip about worn off , at an angle, with a large chip out of the handle. Asked the lady clerk the price and she asked one of the owners. He said $20 since it was a SO. Well, i have bought lots of things from them over the years and they know I don't overpay, so I thought he was messing with me. Ok, game on. I went back there a few days later, prybar still there, so I asked a different male clerk the price. He took the opportunity to free up some needed bin space and sold it to me for a dollar. I don't know if SO would warrenty a pry bar or not. but it has some wear left in it and I'm not going to bother trying.

That shop has a lot of small boxes with cheap tools in them. I've bought Craftsman Crown boxes until I'm filled up after emptying the bad tools out of them. They will sell individual pieces out of them if the rare good one is found. I commented to the owner
that people weren't even able to buy good tools to pawn anymore, and was he able to sell many of the boxes of cheap tools. He said some of his better customers would pawn the cheap boxes and then redeem them. He also said he would occasionally put together tool sets and take them to an auction where sometimes they got surprisingly good prices. He also said a lot of the boxes came with some other objects so he didn't really have anything in the boxes.

Yes, some pawnshops try to get new prices for things. They usually keep them forever too. The supply of suckers in a poor economy is limited.
