I'm getting ready to install the toilet in our basement bathroom project. Its a Kohler Highline. The toilet has inner supports/landings molded into the bowl. The inner supports are proud of the perimeter of the toilet, so when placed on a flat floor, it wobbles. Is this normal, and part of a new install is you need to take a rasp and clean up the inner supports? or should I return and exchange for another?

I’ve heard stories of poor casting. One guy said he tried four or five in the Home Depot and they were all bad.

You'll spend more time exchanging and checking hoping to find one that is correct than it would take to fix the one you already have. Grind what's high flat and build up what's low with grout.

That's what I was thinking. Grind a little until it doesn't wobble on a flat floor. Apply un-sanded grout when the toilet goes in. Its just a porcelain casting, not a machined piece. I replaced many seals over my life, this is the first new out of box toilet I'm installing.

Could also level it with some small tile wedges and caulk around base perimeter. I'd just be concerned about not being able to take it out for maintenance, etc if you grout it in place.

I have a diamond wheel for the angle grinder. I took down the four points until they were level with the outside rim of the bowl. Now the bowl sits flat and not wobbling on a flat floor. I'll shim and grout as needed when I set it on the final tile floor.

A little disappointed, spending more for a Kohler, I thought the bowl would sit flat on a flat floor.

We had one that was grouted in. Don't do it. When I had to replace a seal, a couple of tiles came up with it.
Just place it and caulk the perimeter. I always leave a 1" opening front & rear so you can see if anything starts to weep.
