Tomorrow it begins

My Garage build offically begins tomorrow.

I have it staked out and picked up the trencher tonight.

Tomorrow the trench footer gets dug for my 28x32 garage .

The building inspector will be here mon morning to inspect the trench and later in the am the cement truck will be here!

Next week I will pick up the CMU for the block up.

Nothing smells better than the freshly dirt that comes out of your dream shop's footing trenches. Really gets the building juices going!

In retrospect, that trencher sounds real cheap now. I just dug the footings for a 30x36 foundation by hand LOL. Oh well, I had a 15 day waiting period between the variance meeting and getting the permit, and needed somethingto do. And I gotta get myself prepped for throwing 670 concrete blocks and accompanying mortar.

Anyway, have fun with it. Got anything planned for the inside yet?

There is no way that I could have dug by hand our soil is all clay, during the ice age the retreating glasers took all of the soft soil and left us just the clay! Plus we have to go down 42" for the frost line.

Here are some pics of the weekends progress, Sat trenched, Sun set up rebar and established pour height (top of vertical rebar), Mon did pour. Now I have to have the excess soil removed so that I can block up.

Dont see any rebar uprights, guess you are not tying the blocks into the footer??

Yes I am tying the block to the footer, however, I am drilling holes and inserting the rebar. I did not want to make a mistake in placement of the rebar. This way I can put them exactly where I need them. Also, since I am only going up a couple couse with the block, I did not think this method would cause a problem since it is not quite as critical as if I was doing a tall wall.

Well finally making some more progress...

The excevator showed up thursday and removed the excess soil so I can start putting in the block and then fill with stone.

The block was delivered today.

Tomorrow more fun, fun, fun (at least I can say that now may back is not hurting yet )

So you're doing the block work yourself then?
I just started 3 days ago, and only have about 100 blocks done out of 670. The corners took me a day and a half...

Why is the footer so narrow? Looks to be the width of a 2x4 or so, no?

Fortunately I only have 380 to do! I have done block before but not quite this much.

8" wide, just looks that way with the dirt on it. It is actually a trench pour already down 42" so most of the block is for adapting to the elevation at the rear of the garage and so that I have several courses above the floor. This way when I hose things down etc, I dont have to worry about splashing.
