Hello Everyone,

This might be a bit premature since I still haven't even closed on the house yet but I'm hoping to start work on a garage as soon as all the paperwork goes through hopefully by the end of the month.

I've looked around a lot the past few weeks as to what I want out of this garage and have it narrowed down fairly well I think. I want to go 30' wide by 36'' deep. I want it detached about 10' from the side of the house with two 10X10 overhead garage doors so I can fit bigger pickups and my old Class C camper in it. I plan on building a bar area in the back corner since the house doesn't really have much of a living area. Depending on costs, it's still up in the air as to if I will be matching the 12/12 pitch of the house with a storage room upstairs or if I will stick with a more standard truss.

I work for a civil construction company that does underground utilities and roadways so I have access to about any piece of equipment I want for nothing more than the fuel to fill it back up so I plan on doing most everything myself.

I would like to get started with the footing and slab as soon as possible before it gets to cold out and I would like to get it enclosed and shingled before October.

Here is a picture of the house and to the left is where the new garage is going.

Here is a sketch of what I have in mind for now but is subject to change.

I was wondering if I could get some input on my plan for the foundation.

Here is a link to the standard residential foundation for North Pole http://www.northpolealaska.com/site...ts/building/page/543/slab_on_grade_sfd9_1.pdf.
This is what I was planning on going off of for my garage with a few minor changes.

I plan on digging down until I get to decent gravel material (approximately 6-7') then fill in with gravel and compact in lifts until I get to the elevation where I want the bottom of my foundation which will be approximately 5 feet of gravel fill. I also plan on scratching off the topsoil about two feet from where the slab will be and bringing in fill gravel for that area and compacting as well. Lay the 6 mil poly and the insulation board where the slab is going and form up the outside edges. Get all of my rebar, in floor heating tube, and WWF layed out then do one pour.

I don't plan on laying rebar throughout the entire slab as I don't see it as necessary but I do plan on it for the footings section. Shoot me down or tell me you agree,, I'm welcome to input or advice. This is one thing I need to get figured out in the next couple of weeks so I can start on it as soon as I close on the house. Thanks for reading.
