Too many impact drivers?

Convert one to a 3/8 impact wrench! Yes, I know there are adapters, but where's the fun in that? Also, they reduce torque and increase the overall length of the tool.

I bought the 3/8 anvil from eReplacementParts. It was a drop-in swap for the 1/4 hex part.

Just got the Makita XDT12 and will simply leave it setup for the hex bits. If I had multiples, like OP, I'd be tempted to change one of them.

I bought a Makita 1/4 impact driver just like the OP's off ebay for $16 shipped albeit covered in some paint that I sanded off. It's a bare tool, but I am already in the Makita lineup with other batteries and tools. Once you get the charger and a few batteries in a cordless system, it's pretty cheap to add bare tools to the lineup.

Since I have another Makita 1/4 impact, maybe I will convert the one off ebay into square drive. It's a great idea. The less adapters you need to use means the tool will fit in more tight spaces.

Can never have enough drills. I like to keep a drill bit in one and a driving bit (usually torx) in the other when I am doing woodworking.

Each adapter gives a little slop which can kill the impact, but I still will use both a hex and square drive, not so much a 1/4 sq, so hex, 3/8 sq, and 1/2 sq doesn't seem like too many impacts.

Good to know. Someone on Chicago CL is selling new Makita. Been tempted to pick up a XDT12, but need to find a use for my old one. Not sure if they are returns or if they "fell off the truck".
