Too Many Screwdrivers?

Moving one toolbox to another, and realized I have WAY too many screwdrivers. Anyone else have this issue? (probably a stupid question, lol)
Not like I've bought any in the past 5 years, but when does one need to stop? They're filling up their own drawer in my CMAN toolbox.

I keep a small box of them for prying, scraping, jabbing, abusing the **** out of so that my good screwdrivers don't get trashed as quickly.

Screwdrivers get used a ton in my shop. I have a large drawer devoted to flat blade, and one for phillips. I have found that most of them are unique, and if you want to work on all kinds of things like cars, boats, machinery, electronics, etc. you need lots of them. If I have multiples that are pretty much identical, I will pick the best one to use and save the extras for jabbing/scraping or making into a new tool. I also use the extra ones to put in my vehicles. They also wear out.

- I keep the screwdrivers I use frequently over my workbench.
- Stored neatly in one drawer (with other tools) in one toolbox are occasionals.
- The rest are stored randomly in a box/container.

Storage solutions really depend on your setup and what tools you use a lot. I'm assuming you just want to free up some space.

Like you hint at; there is no such thing as 'too many screwdrivers' imo. I have a long time CM 'go-to' roll around w/top box, a '73 Proto roll around 'work bench' and several top boxes and smaller tool boxes for all of my dup/triplicate tools. That said, I am in the process of donating many of my nearly 50 yr hoard of triplicate tools to our local thrifts. Dups will be next.

It doesn't have anything to do with storage issues, it's just noticing how many I've got. I know there were times I'd see a packet of CMAN screwdrivers at Sears (RIP) and pick them up, just seeing all these screwdrivers in one place....wow...

In my case, I've got one narrow, deep drawer that ended up becoming the dedicated screwdriver drawer. I've had to get more and more creative with how I pack them in there over the years, while keeping them somewhat sorted and grouped by brand/types or function. Lately I've reached the point where it's become a challenge to figure out where anything new would fit, so I'd probably not buy more unless it was something missing from a set or that I really had to have.

Outside of GJ, folks would probably argue that I reached "too many" long ago. But at least I had room. Now that room is at a premium, gotta be choosy about new acquisitions.

I do use the heck out of my 6 in 1 screw driver, use it as an extension for my Makita cordless drills

You can’t ever have too many screwdrivers. It seems I always need one for something. I had to go buy a cheap set for the house so my parents would stop using my mechanics screwdrivers around the house. None of the tools in my toolboxes are for home repairs only car repairs I’m very OCD over my tools and would not let a mechanic geared tool be used on something else. I bought two professional sets last week. Snap-on and Matco not needs but wants cause I wanted a professional screwdriver set and you have to have some for the box and cart so I’m happy plus the Snap-on ones I ordered have a blue handle. I have screwdrivers all around the basement too for things I’m working on and cause I’m out of room to put them everywhere else.

For cheap screwdrivers, I drill holes in a piece of 2X4 about the diameter of the shaft of the screwdrivers. I then jab the screwdrivers into the 2X4 . This way I can can carry a lot of screwdrivers easily and also hang it on the wall.

I improved my general level of happiness dramatically a while back when I started thinking of screwdrivers as consumables. Yes, even "those" brands last a lot longer, but nothing lasts forever. There's no such thing as an heirloom screwdriver.

The second a screwdriver tip or bit starts to wear out and displease me, it goes into the trash. Once in a while screwdrivers or handles join a very small "raw material" pile, but not many of those are really needed.

I may have a dozen or more #2 Phillips screwdrivers scattered throughout my usual haunts, but I can be reasonably confident that when I grab the nearest one, it will work. If not, it goes into the trash and I grab the next nearest one.

I too have more than one drawer of screwdrivers, a few of them have been converted from Screwdriver to another tool that shows it's Screwdriver ancestry. A socket extension welded on to a screwdriver shank.

I tend to use magnetic bit drivers and x-in-1 screwdriver more than standalone drivers, which I save for recessed screws and things like that.

I have sets of Klein, Williams, Wiha, Master Mechanic, Craftsman (PR and WF), SBD Craftsman, Husky, Kobalt, Ideal, Pratt-Read, Stanley, and singles from several other brands. I also have a bunch of amber-handle drivers from PC/electronics tool kits. I have lots of 6-in-1 drivers as well. I use screwdrivers more than any other tool, except pliers and utility knives. I have more than I think I will ever need, but I still buy them.

I have a handful of go-to screwdrivers that I reach for 99% of the time. Then, I have drawers full of hundreds of other unique drivers with a specific application that I probably only need 1% of the time.

I realized that once. It was a real pain to figure out where to put the new tool box, but once I did it was fine.

While it have done similar things when I was younger, now I either use a 1/4" driver or use a bit driver with the socket adapter for my impact wrench.
