Too much side play on garage door

Hey guys. I have searched and googled but I cant seem to find what i am looking for. I just installed Wayne dalton garage doors in my new garage. I have been over everything more times than I can count. My problem is that it seemes there is too much side to side movement in the door. I have about 1 inch on either side between the door and the track and the rollers stick out about 1/2 inch on either side and the door can move side to side when it is raised, and when it comes down it can be a little to the left onetime or a little to the right the next. I would like to move the tracks in closer but with the design of the torsion rod on the top, it is what it is. Any help would be VERY apreciated!!!! Thanks!!!

You should be able to adjust the tracks to be in the correct position to prevent side movement. I did on mine.

But I cannot move the tracks IN or out because of the goofy torsion bar set up. The bar with the hubs on the end are so wide and the tracks mount to that. If I was to move the tracks in ticgter to the door, then I would have to somehow shorten the bar and spring assy.

If that is the situation, then I'd have to say that Wayne Dalton isn't a brand you want to spend your money on. I have a much cheaper brand of doors with the torsion bar setup, and mine are adjustable. Sometimes you spend more and get less.

The drums can be moved in, but you have to remove the tension on the springs before you touch them or you'll regret it.

Mine has about 1" of play in both directions and it doesn't bother me. I can shove the door against the tracks on either side if I wanted to. It has to float some - if the tracks are tight to the door, the latch hits the track on the way up. The door that came with the house is the same way. The rollers have to have some axle showing or they won't roll.

Not on the TorqueMaster. I had one of those and the leeway is only 1/8". You have to mount the brackets exactly 3 3/8" to 3 1/2" plus the width of the door. The only thing I can suggest is to fill the roller guide gap with large washers to keep the door more centered.

Do you also have the iDrive opener?

I used a spacer on the bottom roller shaft between the mounting plate and roller bearing/wheel. More specifically a piece of pex pipe cut lengthwise so i could slip it on to the roller shaft without removing the roller.

You can still move the tracks in towards the bottom by the floor. As the door closes the door will center to the door.

I just installed 3, 8x10 Wayne Dalton doors in my new garage shop myself and they do not have that goofy tube...a standard/normal torsion spring setup. That being said, the tracks are fully adjustable.

Easy answer, tighten up at the bottom and top...

Close door, loosen off your middle and lower track bracket, push on tight (no play but not binding) tighten up the jamb brackets - open half way adjust your back hangs so again - tight but not binding...

Its an old door guys trick, you need play for proper operation, but you can tighten up the tracks top and bottom to keep the door lined up...
