Thanks. We have a great understanding. She likes to buy clothes and l like tools. lt was motorcycles before, but l wrecked my beloved FJ1200 last summer and ended up with a major shoulder surgery of my own. I gave up my bike and she is very happy about that, so as long as l don't bankrupt us she is perfectly happy to let me buy good tools. She says l am welcome to fix anything l want around the house as well

Also sorry to hear about your wife's health issues and your accident. I have always liked the FJ - practically indestructible engine with that big oil cooler to help. Great sport tourer. I was actually trying to find one about 10 years ago but the prices were too high - popular ride. Don't ride much anymore (my own health issues) but can't bring myself to get rid of the bikes. Probably going to try to get one on the road this year.

I apologize for hijacking the thread. And back the to the topic, I go through binge buying every now and then. I see one tool that I need/want and it always snowballs from there. A couple of years ago, I picked up a project car and between parts for that and new tools, the UPS guy was at the house a few times a week for months. He actually came down my driveway once to see what I was up to. He joked that he thought I was actually building a car from scratch with all the tool and part deliveries. Thank God I have a very understanding wife who loves that I can fix most anything around the house or on the vehicles. So she indulges my binges.

Yep, currently in that mode too. Seems like it always happens whenever a new project starts.

Currently rebuilding a Husqvarna 55 Rancher with a blown top end, mostly just for the small engine rebuild education. So I've had a few parts/tools arriving over the past week.

If you are interested in an FJ, I would suggest checking out fjowners.com. They have a really strong online following and it is very impressive what many of them have done to their bikes. Stock, they come with a lot of problems, so what guys have done is figured out a lot of modifications and shared how they do it. For instance, the brakes on them are poor (this contributed to my wreck) so they find brakes from an FZR750 or 1000 and swap them out. They came stock with 16" wheels, up to a certain year, then they had a 17" front but still a 16" rear. 16's are hard to get tires for, so they find wheels from other bikes that are similar and swap them out. I want to say certain years of a GSXR750 are a drop in. In any case, they are a great bunch of guys, and I would read up with them before you buy.

Very cool!

For a variety of personal reasons I decided to quit riding. The main reason is, my wife has brain cancer and the idea of losing me freaked her out to the fullest. I just decided it wasn't worth it, not right now anyway.

If I ever ride again, though, it will be another FJ. I loved that bike. I loved the engine...you just get her into 5th and roll. 5th gear was just as much fun at 45 as it was at 75. It was a lot of bike and didn't handle like the smaller bike I had moved up from, but the feel of it gave me more of a sense of relaxation than you would ever think you could get from a sport bike.

Oh yeah! I haven't bought a tool I'm 6+ months, but the last 4 weeks I've spent about $500. I'll probably go another 6-12 without spending a dime. Just kind of how it works.

Well, I said I was done, but I ordered the Knipex snap ring pliers set from Zoro yesterday. An SK ratchet and some 1/4" sockets from Tooltopia. Ordered new headgear and an auto darkening lens for my welding hood this morning. Picking up the HF 56" top box this afternoon.

But seriously, that's it until May or June.
