Tool Bag for the Trunk?

What's a good tool bag for the trunk of the car?

In my situation, I need a bag at least 18" long for storing my 1/2" drive flex ratchet. I would use the flex ratchet for turning the screw in the factory onboard scissor jack. Then a couple of little pockets for the 5" extension and the 19mm deep socket would be cool too. The left over space I guess I'd take up with the flashlight and jumper cables.

What y'all say?

It all depends on your vehicle and possible roadside repairs. When I am in town, all I want for tools for is to be able to change a tire if the need arises. I also carry a jump box just in case. I figure that in a metro area I am more likely to call a wrecker and be towed than fix something on the side of the road in my pickup. I also have a streamlight on a charger mounted in the console. When I am traveling with my 4 wheelers on a trailer, I will throw a rubbermaid tub in the back with basic hand tools and a 1/2 cordless impact, some rapid fix adhesive, first aid kit, tow rope, and gloves. I have several things I want to add to my travel kit like flares and survival provisions but the chance of being stranded for an extended period where we travel is very slight.

Edited to add: I always have my pistol with me. :)

I think a custom bag would be good for you. Make a bag out of large ******* and bras, you could have some spare DDD cups on the sides of the bag to hold the lugs and sockets, now that would be unique.:lol_hitti You could market it, as the XL horseface girl bag!

Seriously,as Chadster said, a rubbermaid container works well. You can get one of those handy Snap-on tote boxes, they are kinda like a revised rubbermaid container with trays and compartments, I'll go find it, and post the link, maybe Chad could get you one.

Why not get an air tank and keep yourself out of trouble???

2008 Dodge Ram Pickup. It has TPMS=Tire Pressure Monitoring System, The dash will tell me when a tire drops 2psi. In a metro area, a small leak such as that will allow you to reach a tire shop if the need arises. I forgot to mention that one of the travel items that I carry is a 12 volt compressor.

I'm planning to pick up one of these, along with some of their wrench rolls:
http://www.expeditionexchange.com/bucketboss/

I have a full set of Metric and Inch wrenches n my current car bag, and its surprising how often they get used. Planning to move my Craftsman socket set(s) over once I upgrade them as well.

Congratulations, you have found the most expensive website on the internet. You win a prize... **** lube. :shocking:

If expedition exchange could get away with selling SO tools they would charge more than SO. They just haven't figured out a way to do it, yet....

I don't buy that they intentionally mark up their prices, they just don't sell at a huge discount like the rest of the retailers on the web. I'm active on other forums they are on, and they are real people that sell quality products that I choose to support. I'm a big fan of buying a quality product once instead of a mediocre product multiple times.

To get back on topic, I find that the soft sided bags are nice for my purposes because they'll conform to whatever space you have. Wrench rolls are great for keeping wrenches organized, and take up less space than wrench racks would.

If you've got the room, why not a 5 gallon bucket with one of those tool caddy inserts. Plenty of room for the big stuff and lots of pockets & sleeves for the smaller items. The bucket handle makes it easier to carry and you could see all your stuff inside without either dumping out a bag or rooting thru it in the dark or rain/snow.

I got this Husky bag from Home Depot a few months ago, it works the Ryobi drill is gonna be replaced by a good (probably Matco) 1/2 inch cordless impact wrench as soon as I have the cash.

I like those Bucket Boss bags and tool rolls. An option is to go to a Military surplus store and pick up something there.
