need something for the van so it does not necessarily need to be exceptionally portable, just sturdy & quiet. horizontal profile rather than upright design will be easier to store. 24" would be a good length (18" minimum). minimum or no Velcro preferred. veto-pro quality is not out of the question if other criteria is met. should be able to be closed to contain tools.

suggestions appreciated; thanks

I currently have a Husky tool bag that I picked up at Home Depot, somewhere around 24", have had it for a few years now, seems to be holding up well. Since it is packed with tools, it is not real comfortable to carry around, it mostly stays inside of my crossover tool box on my truck and I just take out what I need.

I have had a number of the CLC tool bags over the years, they have held up well, I just either outgrew them or they suffered some sort of catastrophe, one of them got run over by a bush hog, another knocked off of a dock.

definitely a slippery slope picking a tool carrier (box or bag) that's walks the line of right size for what I need versus there's space here so I can add this - and then trying to carry it somewhere to actually use all those tools.

I remember in the mid - late '70s when I worked in the carpenters union on section 8 housing project. had the classic craftsman carpenter box, about 9" x 9" x 26". hoist it up on my shoulder and hump it from the truck to the worksite and then up ladders to the third floor or roof. amazing how much steel, flat bars, pullers, hammer, plane, even the knock out in the top for a framing square, you could jam into that volume.

dog, it's good to be retired!

thanks for the suggestions all - now the neurotic indecision begins . . . .

I have the ~15" inch version of the husky. It's my work around the property bag. Great design, materials, and price. The larger one looked great too. OP I don't think you can go wrong for the price, unless you are specifically looking for Made in USA or something.

I keep thinking I’ll pick up one of the Husky 24” for the next time I need to load up all the battery tools and take them to a project, I can see the circular and ghe sawzall fitting with room for batteries, drills, etc. Almost bought one used at a flea market, but couldn’t quite get it cheap enough.

I like Huskys new line, they're really nice even though the liner looks stupid. AWP also makes some decent bags. Right now I'm loving my CLC bag.

Veto is the Rolls Royce of bags. Milwaukee packout is trying to compete with Veto but according to reviews, they're not quite there but they're pretty pricey as well.

My vote is for the Veto Pro-Pac LC. It may cost more $$ but the design and quality is worth it. The things that sold me on it were the quality, how well I could organize my tools, the plastic tray bottom and that you could lock it (preventing unauthorized tool borrowing).

I have that same bag in the back of my work van. I really like all the pockets and the deep center section. The only issue is how easy it is to pile too much **** in it. I have to stop periodically to clean it out.

After looking for some time I finally found a gently used Veto pro tech lc. Holds all my current hand tools for industrial panel building.

Was also looking at the CLC bags especially the 13" and 18" but the 13 only had 1 closed top pocket. The 18 has the two pockets i want but would be too big and easily overloaded for what I want. Tho i do with the veto had a bit more room.

I absolutely love that bag. It easily hold an 18" pipe wrench in there have it for almost 3 years now.

I'm three years into daily use of a Veto Pro Pac Laptop XLT, it's big, heavy, but it has lasted way longer than anything I had previously (OTC, Westward, Husky). Plus it fits everything I need to do my job. I'd highly recommend their products.
