I need a bigger box at home. Ive been browsing for 50-72" bottom for a bit. Ive seen the us general in person and it seems like it would work fine for home use. But i keep looking at the homak rs pro online. Looks wise it looks nicer and i like the latches better but ive never seen one in person. It doesnt say if the top wide drawer has double slides or not. The us general is a bit taller both look to be the same depth. Homak list theirs at 24" but the drawers are listed at 21.75" deep. Ive also thought about just getting 2 44" us generals. Would be slightly cheaper than the 72". Any advice from someone that has any of these? Any other boxes i should look at also? Id like to keep it under 2k. Ive been keeping an eye out for an used tool truck brand but in this size is even remotely close to what i want to spend. No menards even remotely close so i cant check out a masterforce(believe thats the brand).

I've got an older Homak box, a 42" or so size. It's always been a home box and it always had a problem with the drawer slides sticking when it is cold. Fortunately, I live in AZ and it is only (relatively) cold here from about mid-December to February.

I recently contacted Homak to see if they offered new slides, or perhaps even a roller slides upgrade. After a couple of weeks, they did respond. Sadly, they told me my box was built by the "old" Homak company and they are the "new" Homak company and had no records from that era and could therefore offer me no parts or support. But they did refer me to a company that manufactures slides. So I have that going for me.

If I was to replace the Homak box, and I'm considering it, I'd head over to the new HF store about a mile and a half away and happily buy a US General box without a second thought.

72" rs pro has double slides, the 54" likely doesn't even though top drawer same size, it does have punched holes for extra slides so can buy them to add on .
rs pro is 2" more depth over us gen .
i would buy on what works best for your preference on drawer layout and logistics, 2 smaller boxes far easier transport/handle and more ways can position 2 boxes to floor space layout if any of that benefit to your situation .

I would choose the us general box ( 72 '' ) for several reasons - price is very good , now multiple colors , the ability to add on to it such as side cab , locker , put a 56'' on top ( I heard a rumor that hf is going to come out with a 72'' top box - can not confirm this though ) many positive reviews from both DIYers and Pros.

The Homak 72" has double slides, the 54 does not but as Mr. B stated they're punched out and ready for a second set. Theres a part number floating around somewhere, think they where like 20 dollars for a set. The drawer latch system is superior imo, and depending on the box the work top that comes with it adds a fair bit of value.

Heres the garage journal thread on Homak Boxes.

I have a HF 56” that I like but those RS Pro’s are nice. Biggest issue with the HF is the stupid latches.

I got 2 Milwaukee's 40 inches. I would compare space and cost for the amount of storage you get. I think two boxes are better than 1 big one.

How's your work bench set up? You can get two of the HF 44s and build a Steveo style bench. Granted, you could do that with any box
