Well I just picked up 2 Craftsman 30 inch carpenters tool boxes from a yard sale for 20 bucks. If its a good deal or not I have no clue:headscrat Is there a way to remove the brackets that are on the interior walls and floor? I don't see any bolts or screws so I'm guessing that its spot welded in?

Value is in the eye of the beholder and resale or market value. 20$, wtf, they worth that as usable boxes easy, you didnt get robbed. In fact if I was standing around at an auction I would give that even to bolt on a tractor, ha. Now that you own them make use.

I had a road set with a box about like that and a big red hip roof back in the day. Drove big old heavy used cars, put a set of air shocks on them and kept some work equipment in the trunk. You could open the covers inside, it worked pretty good.

i assume they are spot welded too, can't see in the pic, but usually if you look close you can see an outline of the spot, if not, then start lifting an edge, think small prybar, and if they have any strength they will reveal themselves for you to lightly drill with a 5/16ish bit without going into the box itself, pry a little more, take your time and it'll come apart without making swiss cheese outta the box

I'm glad to hear that! Yea I'm planning to use the box in the second picture but I want to take out those brackets first. I'm also thinking maybe trying to restore the first box since its really rusty and just to get some first hand experience with bodywork.

Looks spot welded to me . Take a 4 1/2'' grinder with a cutoff wheel to remove the protruding metal. Then use a regular grinding wheel to remove balance of metal. You should be able to see the spot welds. Just grind them down Slowly. I would not use a hammer and chisel because you'll peel the metal open and cause a hole. Good job on price.

Grinder it is then. I didn't even realize that the brackets on the floor were for partitions haha Can't wait for my tools to come in so I can see them in the box. :rocker:

Go to HF a get a spot weld drill set, this will let you drill out the spot weld without damaging the bracket or drilling through the box. Just grind the left over flashing when done.

Thanks for the advice. That sounds right for the bottom brackets but I don't think it would work for the wall brackets because my drill would be too large to fit.
