This is my first thread, my intent is for people to share photos of their tool boxes that they have added/ customized to better fit their own needs! Although I am only showing my handheld box, this thread can be any tool box with any customization!

I will start with pictures of my handheld tool box, which is not the prettiest but a work in progress. :bounce: I am looking for ideas on what type of storage I can use on the top of the box (under the lid)!

The story behind my work in progress... I have been using ****-o-plastic boxes for the last 3 years. They seem to always break. Then, a friend/ garage junkie gave me this old tool box and said it was a good box but didn't have a tray. I immediately thought, I'll build one! I am by no means a metal worker but I'll give everything a shot (and I want to do more metal work). I went to HD and bought some sheet metal. Although I didn't take any pictures of me "working" the metal, these are some pictures of the tray I built. Now I LOVE my box, I actually look forward to using and carrying it! I also added pics of the sweet carpet I added to the tray, the original box came with carpet so I thought I'd keep with that theme!

NOW POST YOUR PICS

I guess this is customized. All my other boxes are pretty much factory except for a couple getting caster swaps.

Hell Yes. Share it, anything that has been customized, no matter how big or small. If your proud of it and you think it's cool, let's see it!

1/4 steel worktop for my box. Took some love with a 9" grinder to clean it up.

I love the grinded look. My workbench is all wood, I often wish I had a metal surface instead. The wood is a good base but soaks up oils etc. Is there anything holding it down or is it just resting on the top of your box?

I bought a used KRL1001 and didn't have a need for many of the deep storage drawers. I see them as a means for stacking tools which results in digging.. ;)

Here is a KRL1001 pic that I got online (for comparison)....

Here is mine with shallow drawers added for more "layout" space of typical hand tools..

Every one of the drawers taken out was sold on ebay.... helped others to fix some dents/dings in their box..

2 countersunk bolts in the center and the vise is bolted through it. A scotch brite pad soaked in PB Blaster every few weeks cleans it up nicely.

5 extra drawers- that's a great idea. Did you find your drawers on ebay as well? What did you do for the rollers/slides (rivets, glue)?

It looks like you need some more drawers!

I ordered new drawers and slides from the truck. Didn't think about ebay until I needed to get rid of what I took out. :lol_hitti
Yes, you never have enough tool box.. Looking for a good used 1201, but they are never local.
