I work in a snapon dominated shop now. I had the same snapon guy for 4 years, left that place and worked the last 8 months or so at a national chain. It was good money but not what i was interested in. The snapon guy there managed to screw me over quite a bit, but when i started working at my new job a couple weeks ago i got my old snapon guy back. I have alot of stuff from him and he's always helped me out, BUT if he sees you using anything other than snapon he throws a fit. The matco guy helped me out alot at my last job and i'm looking at buying a box from him. I still buy somethings off the snapon truck but I have ALOT of snapon stuff already. I have been looking at a matco 6s and 4s. My matco dealer has a 6225rx black with dark blue trim he's willing to sell me for a good price, or a 3 bay 4s for about the same price. I'm scared of getting disowned by my snap on guy lol anyone else have this problem?

People's pettiness is THEIR issue, not yours. Buy the box you want and when he sees it just tell him how he's always treated you right but the matco was the box you wanted. The rest is up to him. But don't do yourself a disservice, spend YOUR money on the things YOU want.

money talks, cash is king. THEY should fight for your money, not the other way around.

I brought a summer promo package from snapon at 24% interest once a year for 3 years. There's no way i'm paying that again.

The matco isn't like that it's fixed and if you pay it off early you don't pay as much interest. As nice as the epiqs are, i don't think it's worth it.

My other problems is choosing between a 3 bays 4s or a 2bay 6s. The 6s is a BEAUTIFUL box but i like the big box too.. so it's hard

Only little girls throw fits in my world.

i dunno, but this seems to be happening a lot more recently, maybe it's the sign of slow times, or just petty BS.

i never held an allegiance to only 1 truck brand, i bought from the guy that i #1 got along with best
#2 had what i wanted, when i wanted it, or would have it by next week if it wasnt an emergency.

until 13 years ago, that guy was always in a SO truck, but anymore, it's seems like all the dealers are pissy, all the want to do is badmouth the others guys products.

i dont get along with those kinda people at all, no matter if it's tool talk, computers, or what candy bar is best.

tell the SO guy to be less of a big baby and more of a tool salesman....it's your money, you earned it and he should be doing his best to give you the best deal on his products in hopes that you do him the favour of buying it. If you end up buying another brand from another dealer, it's for your own reasons, which are none of his business in the first place. He'll just need to try harder next time.

my SO guy has the unique advantage of being the only tool truck in town but fortunately, he doesn't let that go to his head and he constantly goes above and beyond to help his customers out and doesn't say a word if one of his customers buys a non-SO product.

so, just buy what you want from whoever you want and tell the guy to **** it up.

I know this may be a little off topic but can you elaborate on this a bit?
Otherwise I think the previous posters have got you covered with solid advice.

Pissy Snap-On tool truck dealers is what started my online tool purchases. I only had one good Snap-On and Matco dealer ever that never complained and were always a pleasure to deal with. And the funny thing with that Matco dealer, I only bought like 5 tools from him in the couple years I knew him...but he'd spend a hour or more shootin' the **** in the parking lot with us every week.

Elaborate on a national chain or the tool guy?

a national chain.. EVERY car that is pulled in must be up sold. My shop only wanted to do oil, tires, and brakes. That's great for the people that work there but some of us are actually mechanics and have bigger dreams than that. In 8 months i did 3 timing belt/water pumps.. and a handful of tuneups. No engine work/replacement etc. a national chain doesn't pay diagnostic time either. We only got paid for the part we replaced and that was it. I just got tired of that. I love where i'm working at now though ive wanted to work here since i got into the field.

The snap on guy.. I brought all my snapon stuff from the dealer i currently have. I left him and went to a national chain.. the snapon guy was making me pay 150-160 a week on an account around 600. He wouldn't warranty my tools i brought from the previous guy. If he did he would charge my account until the claim was vertified. I brought a 1/2 inch electric impact, 1/2 and 3/8 green impacts and some other stuff. Than quickly paid that account off

If you've bought alot from your Snap On dealer you have now, why don't you have him price out a comparable SO box for you? I'd share the dimesions etc of the Matco but don't tell him what kind of price the Matco is. See if he can make you a better deal on one of his boxes.

all i say is Business IS business!!! sometime dont think the person is your friend when buy something that lot of money... just go what you want or need...

i always make price compares if three tool trucks sell one but different price then i will see what will they do... but other time i am just try buy USA made tool products...

It is your choice NOT their choice!!!!

If he crys about it just let him know you can buy the same snap on product online and get it warrantied by snap on direct... And if you shop else where you avoid the bs he gives you.

I would let him know if he wanted to sell me tools then stop crying and b&(*&

LOL it seems to me like these Snap-On dealers think they are rock stars. Ask the SO guy to price out a similar box. If he's more expensive, tell him that the Matco guy is charging X less and unless he can beat it he will not get the sale.

I am absolutely amazed when I read (I don't wrench professionally, just shadetree) how some of these tool truck drivers think they are doing techs a favor by selling them tools. In my business (IT), if a vendor gave us lip service that account would be closed in the blink of an eye.

2 out of 3 dealers i have dealt with in the quite a few yrs ive been doing this have been good, the 2 i have been dealing with dont badmouth the other dealers, which is kind of nice.never had a issue with snapon with 2 out of 3 dealers ive had,the other was pushy, trying to sell you everything but what you want or need.didnt deal with him too much. my guy now is good, order stuff, and it comes in if they have it in the warehouse. usually give $50/wk,my truck account is over $500 now.

He was tryin to get me to buy an epiq at full price. He'll gave me a couple hundred off on it once in a while. He offered me $50 off a 3/8 impact and a free tool. He definitely helps me out. I'm just not looking forward to snapon financing again. I can get the 6s for about 6k. the 4s for about 4.5. Epiqs are around 10k
