I have a Craftsman box from the late seventies (see pic). ....... Also I stupidly put a bunch of stickers on the inside lid, will a hair dryer take the paint off, if I use it to remove them?

I used charcoal lighter fluid to remove duct tape goo from some painted aluminum. Worked great. I'd test an inconspicuous place first to be sure it won't touch the paint. Also, WD-40 works pretty well depending on the sticker.

I actually like the rubber shelf liner material. It is tacked down at each corner with contact cement and does not move.

I just went through this with a box I sold. Hair dryer and patience, if it's your first go round you can wait for the vinyl to visibly react to the heat. It will peel off taking 99.9% of the adhesive with it. Anything left over I use goo gone and then clean that up with rubbing alcohol or soapy water depending what they're on.

I used the liners made by Eppco. A little pricey and I had to cut them to fit but they have a tackiness to them that wont allow tools to move when you close the drawer.

This is what I used as well. Love it, it is decently thick and the tools do not move at all. Great stuff.

I just got some new boxes and have twenty 24”x24” and twelve 18”x24” drawers to line. I’m not looking forward to buying two 30’ rolls of the Eppco liner, so I’ll likely buy one roll of the Eppco that can do fifteen 24”x24” drawers and three rolls of the Husky liner that will do all 12 of my 18”x24” drawers.

Menards has vinyl floor runner they advertise as great toolbox drawer liner. I can atest to that. It works very well. I think it's 18 inches wide and costs $1.49 per foot.

I go to Home Depot and by a roll of plastic / rubber floor runner and cut it up to size.

^ +1 This.

Black Vinyl Ribbed Carpet Runner. Comes in ~ 3' width & sold by the foot at home improvement stores like Lowes in the carpet dept. Looks and works really well. Indestructible.

I just did my top box in this carpet runner I bought from Lowes. It's a thin dark gray ribbed carpet. They had a box of like 5ft tall rolls, not sure of length, for $19.99

Exactly what I did. It’s thick enough to not bunch up, and has some kind of rubber type -ish back. Cheapest thing I could find.

I've been using wood floor underlayment for years now. Cheap, thin, comes in fun colors and works great. It does need to be glued down with some sort of spray adhesive.

I looked at the gray carpet runner yesterday. Are you running it carpet side up or rubber side up? The rubber backing seems like it would grip tools well.
