I'm hoping with the wide knowledge base here at the Journal somebody will have the info I'm looking for.

My dad went to a trade school in NYC. Say mid-late 50's. He was in the sheet metal program, and from what I remember him telling me he made his tool box. It carried all his hand tools of the trade. My sister currently has it, but I found a remarkably good condition one at a pawn shop probably 10 years ago. No brand name or model number anywhere.
My dad is long since gone so I can't ask him, but I'd like to know about the box. My gut feeling is it was offered as a mechanical plan to schools so students could make them, gaining practical experience as well as providing them with a needed box. They could cut the metal, bend the appropriate angles, and spot weld it together. It has a steel rod encased around the lid edge for strength.

All I've been able to find is a company that might be involved: Chicago Factory Machinist Toolbox. It is 16 1/4" long, 10" high, and 7 1/2" wide. Here's some pics of my dads and mine.
Anybody have any clues?
