Been poking at Double bay tool boxes for a while, everytime I consider pulling the trigger, I don't.

I keep thinking I'd be much better off buying a base double bay off a Tool truck instead of the consumer available model?

Am I crazy? I love the Matco Doublebay boxes, and have a cool Matco guy locally.

Check craigslist for used, there's very good deals on used truck boxes depending where you are. A 3 bay Matco was for sale here for 1k and a double bay cornwell for $700 recently. Much better built than any consumer grade and will last forever if it's for a home shope type use.

The pawn shops around here have been packed with tools and boxes lately. Good deals on truck-brand boxes are to be found if you look long and hard enough.

If you are close to Maryland, i have at least 10 double or triple bays in stock most of the time. All used at fair prices. Lots cheaper then you will get a used one off a truck but not you **** cheap as I have overhead to pay.

There's lots of used high quality truck boxes out there, just be patient. I prefer Snap On boxes but the Matco's are nice just the warranty and sales support from Snap On is a plus down the road and IMHO the quality is better especially in the newer Matco. I do have a old Matco and love it but it's higher quality vs today's. Good luck.

I would look around for a used one too. I actually got a great deal last year on an older snap on box full of tools. I got it cheaper than most guys ask for the empty box. It needed a little love but nothing I wasn't able to do myself.

Sometimes the truck guys get used ones in as trade too, even different brands than they sell. Tools too. Just ask the truck guy. He might also know someone selling one that is looking to upgrade.

I couldn't find a box I liked either so I purchased the 44" US General box while I waited for something to pop up. It took a year but I found this Snap On for $500 and then sold the Harbor Freight box for a $60 loss. More than anything it takes patience to find a good deal on something you like. Good luck. You'll find something.

If at all possible go USED. From what it sounds like, you can easily find a used box that meets your needs and budget. Most tool trucks will have some usd boxes laying around.

Check also e-bay.

If I were in Canada I'd be looking at a Beach setup. Nice boxes and Canadian made.

+1 on this!

I do stuff like this. Buy something to get you by ... this will allow you to hunt for a good deal. The money lost in selling the HF box is just part of the cost of the new box..... better yet, buy a used HF box and you can resell for not much loss....

I've got my idea on a used HF box right now, but with my needs this could be my long term solution.
