Does anybody have any accent led strips under or around their tool box? If so post some pics and please explain how you do it and convert it over to a wall plug in type switch.

Using some 2x2x1/8 aluminum angle and some threaded rod, I made this for my tool box.

I used this light fixture specifically because it's super-bright pumping out 812 lumens, and it's got full range dimming.

About a year ago, two guys came on the TV show, SHARK TANK with the idea of having lights in their beer cooler. When they opened the lid, a strip of small lights came on. They said it was for night camping and night fishing. I thought it was pretty cool. No one invested in it, though.

I have some under my lid. They are 2 runs of LED strips with warm white light, a 12V power supply and a normally-closed micro switch. I used about 8.3ft of LEDs in this little project. I ordered the LEDs from Amazon, bought the switch from Radio Shack, already had the 12v power supply (an extra from an ipod dock), and I ordered the PCB connector from ebay.

I wish I was better with a camera but here are pictures anyway...

The micro switch is epoxied to a magnet and stuck to the box. It worked out perfectly. It self located the first time I closed the lid. It turns the lights on when the lid opens, and off when closed.

PCB connectors made it much simpler to connect the 2 runs of LEDs. These are not necessary if you only make one run or like to solder.

I like your box lighting, I use a similar albeit much larger array of #5050 LED strips in my KRL hutch. I ordered a few of those quick connects for the strips because I wound up with 9x64in strips, a waste of 9 LEDs total out of 15m. Found the quick connectors like you used to be nearly useless, didn't hold a good connection. I wound up using solid core bell wire from Radio Shack and soldered it all together. I've still got another 3m that I don't know what to do with yet. I used to have it hooked to the subwoofer so it bounced to the music, but that can get a little old.

1 roll of double density light strip from Amazon. Cut into 3 strips 2 in the hutch and 1 under the top. Soldered the connections. Used small solid telecom wire. 12v comes from power supply from an old computer. Also had 2 neon green lights I found in the trash so I put those underneath.

I used ikea LEDs on the corner of my lid. Mounted the switch on the handle. Hot glued the LEDs in place, thought the adhesive backing was a little flimsy. Taped the cords with gaffers tape. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1393636708.654740.jpg
