Many years ago when TSC had tool boxes, I bought a 40" top and 40" bottom box new, I want to say it was $600 or thereabouts for the set. Well over the years I've misplaced the keys, so I ran down to Sears and bought a new lock set for their craftsman line, installed them (with little modification) and it's been fine. Well one morning I showed up at work and someone had gotten into my boxes, probably the service manager working late--I don't mind lending him a tool if needed, but when you break into my box, you stole from me. well the locks were ruined of course. I ran it like that for about 5 years or so. Replaced the set of boxes yesterday with a 72" triple bay and am going to sell my Masterhand 40" combo. BUT....they're harder to sell without working locks.
Who's got locks now? Sears would normally have them but Craftsman (used to be be made by waterloo, and they also made other "brands" such as masterhand, Kobalt, etc) has been sold off to Stanley, called Stanley and they have no clue--absolutely none. The top box lock is a set of rods that turn 180° from each other, that lock when I bought it years ago from Sears had a bolted-on cam lock, which I removed and discovered a square drive that attached directly to the Masterhand lock mechanism. The bottom box uses a lock cylinder that has a slot, and in the slot fits a flat end of a long rod that runs to the back of the box, which then "locks" all the drawers.
You guys got any ideas? Called locksmith today, he don't have any idea either.
