Has anyone found Magnetic tool box labels that they like? I bought some a few years back and the magnet strength is not as good as they should be. They occasionally fall off. I want magnetic because I change things over time and a permanent sticker would be a PITA.

There are plenty with preprinted descriptions. I am thinking more like this that I can write my own description and have the flexibility to move them around.

I personally think there are better ways to do it, but if you do decide to get them at least buy them off of Amazon (where they are much cheaper):

Many many MANY items found on Ebay are actually available for much less on Amazon.
In fact many Ebay resellers merely buy the stuff off of Amazon and then resell at a higher price.

I literally just bought these and got them delivered Monday. Took me a few minutes to create a template in Google Sheets that gives me cells/blocks that I can type/print from my computer. They seem strong, work well and obviously are customizable. I'll get more in use shots as I have been working in the garage for the last 2 days applying these. I do really like the way they sit just above the pull on the Craftsman vintage stack. I should add, I buy and sell a lot of tools and ..ahem... I sometimes forget where a particular tool is/which box it is in so these should really, really help me. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0925RQK4H?tag=atomicindus08-20

I know. I just hate to support Amazon. I try to avoid those resellers. So share your better ways, please.

Buying ones with adhesive on one side makes it work better. That way the labels actually stick (magnetic adhesive plus sticker adhesive).

(1) The guy you are buying from on Ebay is getting it from Amazon, so, like it or not, you're still supporting Amazon and paying more to boot.
(2) I use the pre-printed magnetic tool box labels available from - you guessed it - Amazon. The pre-printed labels cover 95% of the tools I have.
(3) Plan B is to use adhesive labels from my Brother P-Touch label machine.

I just used the generic ones from Amazon. There are some cool ones on Etsy now too. Worst case use a dry erase marker or something on the drawer.

I got some cheap ones on amazon that have done fine. If you don't like amazon have you considered a cheap label printer like this, Brother PTH110, Ive used it for several years now and had no issues, you can also buy 3rd party label refills that are 1/2 the price of the official ones and work fine in a home setting.

I bought a roll of magnetic tape from a hobby store and I made a template to print stickers using my shipping label printer. I print a label, it has about a dozen drawer stickers on each 4x6 label, I cut them out, stick them to the magnet tape and it's done. Doing the initial run took a while, but making an updated label or two later on was easy.

If you buy the rolls of magnetic strips (sticky on one side, magnetic on the other), open them up and lay them flat. The ones at the end tend to curl and fall off if you don't.

I buy magnetic 8x11 sheets and cut them into any size I want on a paper cutter. I chose black and write on them with a white marker. The ink has held up for two years so far with no signs of aging. If I use glass cleaner and a rag, I can wipe the ink off like a white board and reuse them. I move stuff around and this has worked well on my set of small tool chests.

I prefer clear P-touch tape with white letters. It looks much cleaner. Cheap and easy if you reorganize.
How do they peel off? cleanly with no residue? Can they be resued or are they one time use and you reprint new labels. I do like the look and flexibility the Brother labels offer.

As far as sellers on eBay who fulfil their orders from Amazon. You can often spot them. Not always. They ship from two locations. Often Kentucky and NJ or California. I have at times been surprised. I try to support the small businesses whenever I can. Even if it is $4 bucks more. There is value in that moving forward.

Lots of good ideas here. Thanks

When an eBay purchase shows up with Amazon packaging and delivered by the Amazon Truck, I give a negative review. Not for the product being inferior. But for their deception on who they are. People have a right to know who they are buying from. Just like people want to know COO and not be deceived about it. If that happens to you, I encourage you to consider the same.

My experience is they are remarkably durable, providing that you use the authentic Brother labels (and not the cheaper knock-offs). I've just finished removing around 20 or so P-touch labels (that were originally applied around 2011 or 2012) from my tool cabinets, and every single one came off cleanly with no adhesive residue left behind, but they cannot be re-used. They will stick to a new surface but inevitably one corner (the one used to peel it off) will curl back up.
