In a recent thread I saw beatcad make a riser for his gerstner, I recently picked up a unknown machinist box to go on my snap on roller and I want to make a riser like beatcads so what's the best way to make one of these? Any pics would be useful many thanks

i guess it depends on how fancy you wanna get or what kind of skills ya got.
if yer a good welder you could make one out of square tube or angle iron.
i chose wood because i orig wanted to stain it a dark maroon.
i scetched mine out on paper a dozen times for a week or 2 befor i made the 1st cut.
i toyed w/ the idea of making a door for it.
i overengineered mine(i do that a lot). it'll probably hold 3 times the weight of that gerstner full of tools.

i wish i remembered where i got the idea but i'd say draw it a few times.

The best way? Buy one, followed by making one out of sheet metal then wood. Just a heads up, since you plan on putting that on your snap on bottom box. Even a small 26" top box can hold ~2x the amount of tools that the little machinist box can.

Here are two examples of factory made risers.

I'm an engine builder and have all my heavy equipment in my roll cab, I bought the machinist chest for my machining tools for when I do turning and milling, so it won't hold anything too heavy, I think I'll make one from wood, got any other photos of yours beatcad? Thanks for all the suggestions guys

Okay my plan is to have 3 2x4 to make a horseshoe shape the add angled exterior panels to surround the back and sides of the top chest

Just to be on the safe side I would try and bolt the riser and the boxes together.

My dad had a riser for his 26" c-man top box that was just 1x3 pine in a square shape, it allowed him to place junk on the bench in front of the box and still open the bottom drawer, it worked well for its intended purpose. I still use it to this day with a similar box, I don't have any pics handy at the moment.
