Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew who the supplier was for Snapon, Matco, and Mac tool boxes (I know Waterloo used to make Mac). I am looking for a nice toolbox as an avid hobbyist, not a professional mechanic. The bigger the better, as I quickly filled a 48" wide box.

If there are no good ways to get large boxes directly from the supplier, are there any good substitutes like Montezuma, Extreme Tool Boxes, ect?

Try to find a used Snap-on box. snap-on makes Snap-on. There's actually a REALLY nice one here in the classifieds. In PA though.

Extreme tool boxes seem nice until you look close. The welding is horrendous. At the wheel area of the one I looked at was anyway.

Is there a difference between the low end extreme and the higher end “pro” extreme?

Snap-on and Matco makes their own boxes.

Not sure who makes Mac nowadays, but since SBD bought waterloo, it wouldn't surprise me if they will shift to making all the Mac, Craftsman, Proto and Stanley boxes under one roof.

If I was in the market for another high end toolbox, I would be looking at the newest Lista Technician series boxes. They have redone the latches, (they resemble Snap-On Epiq style) and they are very nice boxes for the money. I got to take a close look at them at IMTS this last November and was very impressed.

Otherwise, I would look for a used Snap-On from the Master series. Very nice boxes.

A 6 series Matco, a Macsimizer or a Proto box would be excellent too.

Last couple of Macsimizers I have bought were manufactured by Georgetown Tool Box...at least that is what the paperwork said. I suspect a division of Mac Tools.

Last one purchased was December 2014.

From Wikipedia:

"Mac Tools also produces its own line of tool storage and carts at its manufacturing plant located in Georgetown, Ohio."

Many of the non-import Mac and proto boxes are made at the Stanley vidmar factory in Allentown PA
