OK so I am looking to upgrade my tool box. I was wondering what you guys think of the dewalt 36 inch tool box. I have never seen one probably do to the fact I live 1hr + away from a homedepot.

I'm thinking if there as heavy as they say they are in the YouTube reviews there probably worth the money.

Only bad thing I've read, is be sure to check it before you leave the store for shipping damage. They are said to be well built.

I have played around with them in the store and I don't mind them. The issue is the top cab has that huge space in the top which takes up like 2/3s of the space plus on the bottom cabinet the drawers are really deep which is ****** for my purposes. I would take a look at the us general boxes from hf

I have no idea about the quality of the box. I'm just jealous that you have an hour's breathing room between you and the nearest HD. Where I'm at, it seems like there one in any direction I turn. Or two ................. or three ............... in-between a Lowes at every other turn. All the good Ma&Pa hardware stores and Lumber Yards have gone under because of the big box store wars.

Its a love hate thing I live in a small town (population around 3,000 mostly older folk) you have to drive thirty minutes to get a decent price on any thing due to lack of competitors. You pay 10$ here for a 3$ item at a Walmart.

They look like they're well made, but as another poster said, the drawer configuration leaves something to be desired. Almost like they were designed for woodworkers.

about a month ago(mid dec) i saw these at my local HD.
i dont need another tool box but i did check 'em out.
the floor of the drawers seemed decent. not to much flex.
the slides were smooth, but of course that was w/ no load(full of tools).
i didnt look on the backside to see the makers decal to see the COO.
i bet ya a cup of coffee its built in USA w/ other country parts.
still not bad if ya care for that kinda stuff.
i've been to HD lately and they're all gone so i guess the price was right.

like other guys said something big like that i'd want to pick up and inspect in person instead of trusting any shipper

I don't want buy something thing blindly. I'm making a list of tool boxes to check out in person. The nearest harbor freight is like 2 hrs away. Luckily my father in law has just purchased a 44 inch top and bottom chest from harbor freight so I'll be checking it out. And he can have anything shipped from there for 6 bucks. So in a few weeks after my list is complete I'll do my shopping then.

I'd check out harbor freight. US general pro tool chests. You'd be surprised by the quality and the price. I've got the 44" upper and lower. Can't complain at all and would even recommend over craftsman.

Plan on checking one out. The 44 inch box is bigger then I'd like but the 26 or whatever it is is to small

Yep lots of what I would call wasted space.

If you've got the space get the biggest size you can afford. Starts to fill up quick. I'm looking at a second lower tool chest to go under the work bench. Good luck with the search

It is insane of just how much wasted space is in that design, I swear I could fit more in a 3 of those little husky portable boxes that are $30 a piece than in the drawers in the top box.

Yeah it does depend on what you're putting in there though also. If you are putting a ton of power tools in boxes the deep boxes make some sense.

The top is designed as a charging station and storage for all of your Dewalt cordless tools. Like a mini hutch.

The bottom one only opens halfway as well.

The bottom drawer of the roller cabinet does open full-extension once the safety clips are released or eliminated. They are there to maintain the 200lb rating and prevent tipping. The deep drawers are probably best for power tools by design.

To the OP: The odds of finding a Dewalt 36" are pretty slim at HD. The big price reduction was a few months ago and they were snapped up rather quickly and there is a thread or two about them in the GJ forum

I know, I don't like cordless stuff so I try to avoid deep drawers, I got some plain old cabinets for power tools.

I was looking at the DeWalt boxes at Canadian Tire today. It was a sad display of tool boxes. Almost every box on display was damaged. Including the DeWalt box. I would say it's very marginally better than the **** they sell at Sears now. Not worth driving 2 hours for, that for sure.

When I get my new box truck I am getting a DeWalt stack. I like the draw setup. I am a contractor by trade and most of my saws and cordless stuff will fit nicely. Lots of my stuff is bigger. At home in my auto box I have smaller deeper drawers.

Good luck finding one, I haven't seen any in any of my hd's since they lowered the price.
