To me, if your job requires a lot of tools, and the thing has to move, a well built big box is what a guy needs. When on the job, your tools can't be exploded all over the place like at home. Some guys could easily work out of a 40" Craftsman and never need a bigger box, but easy weekly payments are temping. Now the guys at home, a 72" top and bottom SO is in general over kill, but this is America and he buy what ever he wants.

You dont have to spend thousands of dollars to get a good box, you just need to do some research and find out whats good value.

Lista.

Fami.

Bott.

They might not have dubious pictures of hot rods or Harleys but they will live forever.

Unless it's for shop (work) use or unless your a "bull in the China shop type person the big highend boxes like SO's are overkill imo. 26" boxes that are made domestically are a dime a dozen used because techs often sell them to buy the bigger boxes. I have 3 top/bottom 26" Waterloo's side by side. I use them slightly more than the average Joe would, they are well loaded, but I am fairly gentle on them and as a result have had no problems and for all of them I have less than $600 invested. How can I go wrong?

But having said that if you can afford a KRL and want one, why not get one. Not like I actually need SO or Gray tools so how can I judge. ;)

I have a Snap On KR650/655 combo that I bought in 1988. I still have it and I've only had to have 1 set of drawer slides warrantied. I spent the money so I wouldn't have to spend lots on many cheap tool boxes - I saved money in the long run not having to replace it every few years. Best money I ever spent! (yes, I'm a professional mechanic and the box is used every day!) At home Craftsman does just fine, I see no need to spend big money for my home box, but my work box is my life's blood - I make my living with it!

i bought my 1st big box in '86, kr 550/555 combo for $2250, that was a lot of money back then. over the years i've bought a lot more boxes, sold and gifted a couple, some new, some used.
the kr550/555 is still being use at work, with one set of slides replaced about 5 years ago.
i have SO boxes in my garage and basement, i'm sure they'll all outlast me.
