Tool cabinet under your workbench?

The new tool cabinet I'm planning to buy is 40" high, and for the sake of space and shop layout I would like to build a new workbench for it to sit under, but my concern is that the workbench top may be too tall.

Do any of you have your tool box under your workbench, and if so, do you feel that the bench top is too high to comfortably work at? What height is your workbench?

I'm a DIY'er, so I do just about every type of task at my workbench, and sometimes for hours on end. Most of the time I work standing, but for more intricate work (like soldering) I sometimes sit on a stool, but that's rare.

Here is mine. The bench height is just over 40". If your cabinet is already 40" high, I would suggest putting the bench top right on top of the cabinet unless you are a tall guy.

My main workbench, consisting of old kitchen cabinets and countertop, is just under 37". I have a smaller second workbench I built at 42 1/2 " beause my back would bother me if working long hours at the lower bench. I find myself doing a lot of my work at the taller bench. I'm 6'.

I took the wheels off of mine, and built the bench frame so they sit down lower in it.

I have a 5 drawer box under my bench. it is made by Gladiator. THey also make a 7 drawer. It also fits but the drawers are all shallow. If I had to do it again, i would get the 7 drawer. I don't keep the drill or buffer in the lower drawer anyway.

Workbench height depends on two things: operator height and operations performed.

A blacksmith swinging a hammer on an anvil requires a different working height than a tech soldering electronics or rebuilding carburetors.

I'm 6'2" and my low bench is 38" and I built one 47" tall workbench which keeps the workpieces up where I can see the fiddly little bits.

I never saw the seven drawer ones. All of mine are 5 drawer. I do know that you can interchange the drawers, I will have to look and see if I can mix and match to get a cooler combination!
