hey guys i have a question about a tool cart i just assembled today. heres my cart:

if you look closely at the casters, they looked "raised." you can see half of the shaft is exposed like so:

in the assembly instructions it says to beat on the casters with a rubber mallet to install them. which i have. the design of these casters look different from the ones ive seen from a quick google search. these have a shaft that connects the caster to the legs with some sort of bearing/grommet halfway up the shaft. ive given these ALOT of hard whacks but do you guys think i need to keep beating on it more? or should it be fine the way it is. they seem pretty set in there.

I've seen these as well. There should be no exposed shaft. Maybe the plastic plug in the end of the leg needs a very minor reaming?

Ya they should be seated all the way down. Is there a hole in the end of the white plugs for the shaft to go in?

There's a swelled up portion on the post that needs to get pushed in all the way. You just need to push them in further.

Yeah That swelled up portion is like a gold fat grommet thing. That's as far as I got them. And as far as pushing them in, I was using full strength blows with a rubber mallet. Lol. I suppose I can widen the holes a little.

They're in there pretty good. Any suggestions on how to take them out? Straight tugging on them doesn't work -.-

Thanks guys

It's supposed to be a friction fit. So if you enlarge the hole in the plastic insert, don't go too big.

I would be careful about trying to yank them out- you may be passed the point of no return. Have you called your HF store to tell them about your troubles? Maybe you can swap it for another one, if you bought it within 30 days, with reciept, or let them give it a try. As a last resort, I think I would try squirting some silicone spray lube in there, then giving it another wack with a mallet. Once you break one of those plastic inserts, you are SOL!

Lol no prob.

Just an update, I was able to get them all the way in using some wd40 and the rubber mallet. Go figure. Lol. Thanks guys for the suggestions. Saved me the embarrassment of bringing this to school the first day the way it was

yeah, like going to school wearing "floods," or "high waters" (depending on which part of the country you are). Hahahaha.
