Tool Cases - Throw them away? What else?

Whenever I go to yard sales I always find empty cases that I try to figure out how to repurpose them. More times than not I don’t get them.

When I started to read this article, I didn't think about the cases. The more I read along, the more I realized that I have plenty of cases and there are several in use holding the tools that came with them. All neatly tucked away under the bench.

However I have bought a few things that came in BM cases and have pitched them after taking the tool out.

Another idea to use these, for holding batteries. Up till now I've had just a random plastic tub that I threw all the various kinds into, and it would always be sorta a mess searching through it for the type I needed. Plus I just got some refills on AAs and 9Vs from Amazon, and it just wouldn't fit in the tub I had. Well, an idea popped into my head and I grabbed one of the unused tool cases I had up in storage.

This Benzomatic one that came with my torch set was a good one cause it already had a bunch of divider walls that I could use. Just a bit of cutting needed with the oscillating saw to make everything I wanted fit right...

I've kept a few cases. Thought of throwing them out, but can't seem to do it.

Now I'm glad I didn't. Packing up for a move this spring and find the cases are coming in handy.

I like the idea of using one for battery storage. Got a lot of batteries laying around the house and shop and it'll be perfect for moving.

Yeah it'd be silly to toss, them. They're high quality (usually) plastic cases.

I like the battery storage idea above. I bought a couple of Sanyo/Panasonic Eneloop rechargeable battery kits. They came in nice little cases. I put all batteries in one case (each had empty slots). I keep both cases in the kitchen catch all drawer.

One serves as the toolbox for the house tools -- tape measure, small level, screwdrivers, pliers, electrical tape, etc.. Other has the batteries.

I had a couple of Makita tool cases (rigid plastic). I gave one to a friend with some basic household tools in it. The other one holds my loose tools and materials (clamps, fasteners) and I keep it with my portable toolbox.

Man...this blows my mind. I LOVE my cases for my tools. Easier to find, keep the parts that go with them together. Easier to grab everything you need. I have a whole shelf full of boxes with tools in them.

Use them for that which they were designed...storing the tools when not in use. They store a hell of a lot better than the bare tool and having the accessories piled around or lost.
