I picked these up at an auction yesterday. I love old books, missed the tool selling part I was too busy digging through boxes of old magazines. The guy had incredible amounts of junk. Every Readers digest, TV guide, Life, etc. I ended up buying almost all of the magazines and books, only took 4 boxes worth.

I kept the old industrial catalogs tool catalogs, mechanics magazines etc. Here are a few pics of the highlights.

Love the ads from the Automotive service digest.

The Thor catalogs are 1941, Crescent 1960, '68 Cornwell, '80 Armstrong, Proto mid-70's is my guess.
The crescent has a model number comparison to other companies.

Wow, FABULOUS haul! I went to an auction myself yesterday, and nearly sweated myself to death in the heat/humidity. But prices were really low, since people lacked much enthusiasm for standing out there in the sun to bid. I got several tool catalogs, and was feeling pretty proud of myself. But your catalog haul makes mine look pathetic!

Congrats!

So jealous. There are a few in there that I'd like to buy too if you're selling...

All the Craftsman and the plomb came from the attic over his garage, the guest auctioneer told me they weren't for sale. I told the main auctioneer I would start him at $10 just to get him to put them up, nobody else bid. There were about 50 boxes of magazines, newspaper clippings etc. up there they were going to throw away. I spent about an hour and a half in the attic sorting at 5:00 in the afternoon, it was brutally hot. I only got one box out of there I left the rest, wasn't worth it to me. I told the little sheet runner girl some of those Life mags from the '40's would be worth ebaying, just not to me. Truthfully catalogs are a little hard to find but they don't bring much money.

I also bought the contents of the hayloft for $10 there were 7 or 8 boxes full of brand new grinding wheels, the rest was so full of **** nobody wanted to go up there. I left a beautiful old I beam trolley with pulleys on both ends and a big chain fall behind. It was about 12 ft up but it would have taken me two hours to dig my way through the rusty metal, insulation, broken glass to get to it.

I think you would be pretty disappointed. The guy did have a bunch of the old photography books. The kind before you could just go buy *******, so you pretended you were interested in **** photography as an art form if you wanted to look at naked women. I grabbed a box of them for a friend to sell on ebay.

I have started to collect old Craftsman catalogs. I like the 1947 with the speeding car and train.

But the best cover in my mind is this 1932 Art Deco.

Dang...I just spent 50 years collecting 10% of that at about a zillion times the expense!
Some people just do it right!
